Coen - glad to see you back here again.

Since it is apparent there is a leak, you will need to remove the patching material and determine the extent of the damage. Since any water in the fuel will tend to settle at the bottom of the tank, the rust is likely from the water. That is the purpose of the little bleeder screw - you should drain it regularly to get the water out.

The method of repair will depend on the extent of the damage. You might be able to get away with cleaning the rust out on the inside and patching it with an epoxy (not bondo) or it might require spot welding the pin holes, or the bottom may need to be cut out and replaced with new metal and a new bleeder screw bung. Sorry, not much more detail can be given without more info.

Safe travels.

Are there any specific design elements to this piece or are they merely just a jug to allow a slow in the fuel velocity so water can precipitate out?

If it's just a simple jug, I'd have a welder make one from stainless so rust wouldn't be an issue again. Possibly have the bottom made at a slight angle so you could move the bleeder to the side of it and bottom impact wouldn't be an issue.

Hey guy's,

Thanks for you replies. It is indeed a simple jug, and I've cleaned the patching stuff. Then added some metal expoxy. This will hold for the time being and we'll just have to see if I can eventually get a new one, or replacement as the metal is rusted out on the bottom... We're safe for now ;-)

Adventurous greetings,
Coen

Great work, as always Coen.

I've not been on this site much either, but keep up with your blog from time to time. I just read your review of the Coleman camp oven, as Jean and I are contemplating taking one along on our travels.

Thanks for posting.

Heya guys, Just wanted to let you all know we are in Venezuela at the moment rebuilding the rear axle. Somebody really screwed things up a while back. But I'm confident we will sort it out. In the meantime Karin-Marijke wrote some nice roadtrip stories about the region. Let us know what you think and which one did you like most!

heya Xracer9,

sorry to inform you that we couldn't stay longer in Venezuela due to the visa regulations and we couldn't cross the border to Colombia as all borders are still closed due to the political unrest. We had to retrace 2.000 kms in 3 days to "escape" to Brazil. We are now back in Guyana to see our options about shipping to Korea or Japan..

Adventurous greetings,
Coen

Hello all,

I'm in a good mood today and thought about riving this old thread. As we are still on the road. After we shipped the Land Cruiser to South Korea and Japan, we have recently started on the Far Eastern corner of Russia and "slowly" make our way across towards the west.

We have been lucky to have met so many nice people already in Russia who showed us around and helped us in any possible way.

Just wanted to let you all know that we haven't forgotten about all of you!

A shot from our latest blog post of our recently revamped website.

Adventurous greetings,
Coen

Well since we share the same name (spelled correctly too) I figured I might as well start following the thread.

My last name is the same as your 1st name. In the States most people spell it with an “h” though so I’m always excited to see it spelled without one.

We bought a small drone recently and are experimenting vigorously ;-)
Please let us know if you would like more of this? For now some small bits and pieces are open on our new YouTube channel and more stuff if behind a Patreon curtain. Not sure how that will work out in the future.

Adventurous greetings,
Coen

After some doodling and seeing what other artist did with cars, I decided to try and see if I can sketch our own troopy.

The result is stunning and I decided to turn it into a t-shirt design.
It's available in different cuts, fittings and colors on our website here.

What do you guys think.
