    Trying out Target's Embark cooler

That one and the one I got from RTIC looks like they could have come from the same factory (or probably did). Mine has held up just fine and you are right, gotta use the zipper lube. I've heard of some of the glue seams delaminating but mine has been fine after about 3 years.

    Strapping down a kayak to a roof-rack

The hook could detach from the attachment point. Will it? Probably not, but could if something flexed or bounced hard enough. It's a bit different with inflatables since you have changing pressure making things tighter or looser as you go, so that's why I don't use something that could...

    Ice blocks from vacuum bags?

I see the advantage in making them to size, but I think it's a disadvantage from an ice storage perspective. By making a long, wide, thin-ish slab you are increasing the surface area of the ice which will make it melt faster. I'd probably stick with the bottles and then you don't need to...

    Strapping down a kayak to a roof-rack

I use NRS straps for almost everything raft related, including strapping multiple rafts stacked up on my trailer with kayaks on top of them strapped to the top frame. I've towed them thousands of miles and nothing ever moves. Loop straps are a great option for roof racks too. Cam straps...

Any coolers with left side drains?

if you already have a cooler you could just drill the hole and install a drain on that side.

Grand Canyon Experts; Sleeping Bag Rating Question?

On the boat is the coolest place to sleep, which is generally preferred. The more up the bank or near rocks you go the warmer it is. The rocks and sand absorb that heat all day and keep things toasty.

Grand Canyon Experts; Sleeping Bag Rating Question?

I was about to ask if he grabbed the temp from the North Rim and not Phantom. That link is where I got my info yesterday. It did look like it was in the 30s up on the rim. I found this interesting little chart on averages from the North Rim, South rim and inner canyon. I can't...

Grand Canyon Experts; Sleeping Bag Rating Question?

You are going to roast. Phantom is already 90s during the day and 60s at night, only going up. The coolest night I remember having was at Lee's on the June into July trip I was on, and then it was only up from there. If you are definitely going to take that bag I would buy a set of sheets...

    Campfire container for restricted areas

Nice thing with these is they fold up pretty flat and with the lid they are self contained. Legs and grill go inside...

now this interesting, Lifetime Products 55 QUART HIGH PERFORMANCE COOLER

I bought my Yeti cooler for rafting in 2007. A 120 cost me $285, seemed like an expensive cooler at the time. Today that would cost me $549 to replace it with their current 125. Are their coolers twice as good today? Don't think so. To me they are the Bud Light of coolers, costs...

    Leaving OZ Tent unattended

I might put a few items if I was worried about them in the tent to be out of sight, but I think it's pretty rare for people to mess with other's campsites.

Toilet Solution for LONG TERM Overlanding trips

Ammo can lids have a rubber seal around the lid (one of the things to check if you are buying army surplus), and have a levered compression latch on both ends. Pretty much impossible to put on wrong. So exactly why rafters use them, if you flip the box can pretty much take any beating the...

Toilet Solution for LONG TERM Overlanding trips

I didn't think of that but a thetford style would work nicely too. would do a nicer job of containing the chemical part from the clean part and easy to dump. that's what we use in our basic pop up camper. River folks call the rocket box solution a "groover" since before someone came up with...
