Video of the Week: Gall Boys

We’ve taken trailers into some questionable locations before, but the Gall boys redefine crazy in this video. Sure, it’s an Australian caravan built for off-road use, but watching them drag this thing through these remote tracks is still an absolute blast. From deep sand pits to river crossings, follow along as they explore the far north reaches of Queensland.

Born and raised in Dallas, Texas, Chris didn’t receive a real taste of the outdoors until moving to Prescott, Arizona, in 2009. While working on his business degree, he learned to fly and spent his weekends exploring the Arizona desert and high country. It was there that he fell in love with backcountry travel and four-wheel drive vehicles, eventually leading him to Overland Journal and Expedition Portal. After several years of honing his skills in writing, photography, and off-road driving, Chris now works for the company full time as Expedition Portal's Senior Editor while living full-time on the road.

I am currently shopping for a trailer, and find it frustrating even in many of the ‘offroad’ versions, the black & gray water drains hang way below everything else under the trailer, making it almost a sure thing they will be the first casualty in even mildly potholed service roads. Wish more of the mainstream US builders would employ some of the Aussie details.

Couldn’t agree more John. Because all of the manufacturers build cheap quality trailers, theres no competition or incentive to build better. Its a race to the bottom for price. Hopefully we get some Aussie manufacturers over here to show them how its done.

        Chris,

Thank God Exploration Outfitters is working with Patriot Campers to do just what you’re talking about. I recently purchased an X1 GT from them and get strange looks when I tell them what I paid; however the X1 will be around after the newness wears off the 30k 5th wheels requiri constant repairs. My next camper will be an Aussie-style Caravan.
