X Overland’s 2020 Polaris General XP 1000 Side-by-Side Overland Build: “Curiosity”
Looking for a side-by-side built to X Overland standards? A recreational machine capable of exploring beyond the reach of a full-sized vehicle? A versatile and sporty utility vehicle built to do it all? Our 2020 Polaris General is it!
Given the apt moniker, “Curiosity,” our Polaris side-by-side is featured on our Croft Family Solo Adventure. Since filming that series in 2021, we have brought “Curiosity” along on all of our weekend getaways as an exploratory vehicle we tow behind our Prospector. Housing the Four Wheel Camper, the Prospector serves as our base camp, while the Polaris allows us to venture to more remote locations like high-country lakes and meadows for picnics and fishing.
The combination of a larger overland vehicle paired with a side-by-side is also perfect for heading out from base camp to go rock climbing, mountain biking (you can use the Polaris to run shuttles for downhilling), hunting, making a water or firewood run, or for simply exploring the countryside! (Along with recreation, read more below about how we have also set up this Polaris SxS for chores around the house and farm by adding accessories like a hydraulic snow plow!)
This Polaris General has definitely been given the XO touch. Curiosity sports a fully enclosed cab featuring a heater, a pop-up glass windshield (with a fully functioning wiper), and glass side-door windows. The interior sound system is top-notch, allowing you to listen to your favorite tunes as you tour, and the integrated GPS unit will ensure you find your way back to camp.
We have also equipped Curiosity with 31” General Grabber X3 truck tires to minimize punctures and flats and matched them to ICON wheels. (Factory wheels and tires are still included.) We even attached a complete set of Maxtrax Mini Recovery Boards! If you get into a tough spot that demands more than a set of Maxtrax to get you unstuck, a 4,500lb winch is located in the front bumper to assist with recovery.
This side-by-side is an all-season set-up. When winter arrives, you’ll be ready to enjoy the season to the fullest with the included set of Polaris Prospector Pro snow tracks. Equipping the General with these tracks will allow you to explore the backcountry in winter or reach that secluded, snowed-in cabin for the holidays or a quick weekend getaway.
Equipped with snow tracks, the side-by-side is also perfect for accessing backcountry ski locations or for participating in late season winter hunts.
Furthermore, when it comes to winter, this machine will be ready to lend a hand around home with a Polaris Hydraulic Plow System. Combined with the fully-enclosed heated cab, this plow system turns a winter chore into recreation!
The final touch to this package is a custom-built off-road utility trailer perfect for towing the General to wherever you’d like to disembark. This trailer is large enough to carry the side-by-side along with the full set of Prospector Pro snow tracks or whatever else you’d like to transport (dirtbike, four-wheeler, paddle boards, float tubes, firewood, etc.). Just hitch-up and go!
