Winter Camping in Death Valley And Southern Nevada

A couple of weeks ago I spent 4 days exploring the north end of Death Valley and around Beatty, Nevada.

The first night out, I made it from home base in Reno, NV down 395 to Bishop and Big Pine. After the usual gas and last minute groceries, I drove out Death Valley road and camped just outside the parks northern end.

I was treated to a nice sunset:

And a sunrise:

The next day I drove down the 10 miles of worst washboard road I've ever been on to Eureka Dunes. The good news is that the graders were right behind me plowing the roads.

After setting up the kitchen and cooking some chili at the dunes, I headed out over the pass, east.

I then hopped over the Stateline into Nevada and found this gem of a ghost town.

I pressed for room service and then went inside. The cabin was nice, carpeted, and solid out of the wind that was blowing pretty steady outside. There were even a couple of Sierra Nevada's pale ales left behind for fellow travelers.

Nice trip report...pictures are different...most pleasant...I've never seen that camera angle on Eureka Dunes before.

"Camping in Death Valley!" Being none the wiser, and given my perception of the place due to media, I couldn't imagine it. Great pics and it looks an awesome place to see.

After that I headed down into Beatty to a campsite I've been using on my way through for the last 6 years now, and decided to hang out and relax.

And then I went out to visit Chloride City just inside Death Valley National Park. The road was gone coming in from the south of Beatty, on my way out I tried continuing north towards Daylight Pass. The road was rocky and bumpy. But I made it.

Sweet trip! I recognize the first cabin and its surroundings as we spent the night there just before Christmas 2018 too. Did you get a chance to check out Gold Point? As for your Chloride City photos, we must have taken the same photo class as my photos are very similar to yours.
