Why is this 280G not selling?

This vehicle was advertised earlier this month with a buy it now
price of $7500. There were no bids. So I guess the owner is
trying again with a lower starting price. It's not clear if there is
a reserve price this time.

A few issues:
The rust looks worse than the seller is saying. The truck is
right hand drive. I'd want to know more about the truck's
importation to USA, including when it occurred, and who was the
importer. "A new throttle body" probably means a complete
overhaul of the fuel injection. The photos in the ad don't show the
condition of the exterior paint. Florida sun can be intense.

I'd plan to put an additional $8-$10K into restoring this vehicle if
you want to deal with all the issues. But if you want a beater to
take off-road, then you might spend $3-$4K dealing with the
current engine and chassis maintenance. Just a guess.

Hmm, I might go look at it. I have been keeping an eye out for a G Wagon.

I know a lot about the engine/CIS as I own/have owned countless 70's and 80's Mercedes. Not worried about that. What I don't know a lot about....the rest of it...

How are these for reliability? Are they daily drivable and highway capable?

Good assement form the ad and previous ads.

I say it is a great candidate for a v8 or Cummins. Cut it, hack it up, convert it and make it better for the same kind of money as restoring or fixing it. Easier to get parts for and cheaper to run in the end. You could dump the stock diffs or keep them. Suspension wise I don't think it is all that hard to get these trucks to start flexing well. Beat it up...who cares, it is pretty cool and unique for a build up and about as cheap as you will find for a starter build up platform. If I had a spare $5k around and was looking for a G project I would be all over it. There is never one way to do things and restoring it or keeping it original is only one route to go with the truck. As long as the frame is solid, the body rot not to serious abd the title genuine it is a good deal. Most sheet metal is flat and easy to cut out and replace, so unless body rot is serious it is not a very big deal. The options are endless and it is the right price!

This 280 is not selling because the rust is so bad. He bought this car from a guy in Virginia if I am not mistaken within the last 9 months, unless this guy moved from VA to FL.

I never liked my M110, but then again I had it only 3 weeks before I had a blown head gasket. Others seem to like their 280GE's, but mine got crap for fuel economy (12-15mpg).

PM me and I'll tell you more.

Nee-nuu Nee-nuu!
Funny, I almost won that G the first time it was on ebay. If I remember, it sold for around $4600. When I saw it relisted by this guy in Florida, I emailed him to confirm it was the same truck, and to ask if he had driven it much or done anything to it. He replied saying it WASNT the same truck... Yeah, like there's another RHD Red G with the Mercedes banner along the bottom!

I'd love to see better pics of it.
