Where to find a used medium/heavy-duty trucks

For those of you who've built on a used medium/heavy-duty truck (like an F-550 or 5500): where did you find yours?

Local dealers seem to have tons of F-150's and 1500's, a smattering of F-250's/2500's and F-350/3500's, and almost nothing more heavy-duty than that. Buying private from owners feels risky AF, but maybe that's the only real way?

Are there any used shops that special in commercial grade vehicles?

You are going to start digging into a subject with "lots of skins to that onion"!!! You think you found the ULTIMATE rig to start your build, buy it... Than learn just paid a lot of money for... Scrap metal!
I'll speak for myself and most all of the M-HD 4x4 owners that have been on the site over the last 18 years (most all of them my friends)... The learning curve is VERY steep and VERY expensive!!!
