We lost a good one in Latvia this week. I hate posts like this.

Peter would always have his home open to many of us in the Anchorage cycling community. We would share trip reports, slide shows, and harvest parties with salmon, caribou, moose and veggies from the garden. Just a little background from a fellow bike wonderer Sarah J. "Peter Richter was killed by a drunk driver while on bike tour in Riga, Latvia on October 13th. At 71 years, Peter had more joie de vivre than most twenty year olds, exuding a powerful and genuine curiosity about people and cultures. In the Balkans before he died, he used his Russian to speak with all the Babushkas along the way. Anyone who ever had the pleasure of knowing or even meeting Peter felt like they were speaking with an old, beloved friend. Peter had an otherworldly ability to connect with people and we have lost a supernova, a bright star in our universe. Peter flew a bush plane, commercially fished for salmon in Bristol Bay, built a remote cabin, climbed Denali, drove a Volkswagen van across the Soviet Union, bike toured across Europe, and was the glue of a multigenerational community of punks, misfits, Alaskan pioneers, and adventurers. There will never be another Peter Richter."

Our community needs help with funding funeral costs and travel expenses to bring Peter back to Alaska. Attached is a link to a Gofundme account. If you can spare anything to this fund, please donate. Thank you. If you were ever so lucky to have met Peter, please share this link.
