Washer/dryer pedestal thought

Anyone ever taken an old washer/dryer pedestal and crafted storage from it? I'm trying to think of the negatives.

Naturally it'd need a latch or two to lock it closed. And there's no mechanism to lock it open. But they seem heavy duty, they don't weigh much, they're about the right size to fit a pair side-by-side in the back of a lot of SUVs. Aaaand, most importantly, they're easy to find cheap on craigslist.

What obvious reason am I missing not to spend $30-50 to give it a go?

The ones I have seen are sheet metal junk, kind of like the drawer on a stove. I assume you are talking about vehicle storage-I certainly wouldn’t bother.

The Samsung ones I bought a few years ago at Home Depot were about $200 each, a giant Rip but they match the WD and I bet they would rattle. M

I think it could potentially work for light cargo, like clothes. Or maybe things like bread and potato chips.
