Video Hosting

Just got back a blast from the past - Super8 movies of North Cameroon, the Sahara, and South America. Now I have to learn enough video editing to do some clean up. But then, where do I host to share?

Suggestions, please.

My favorite is Vimeo.
YouTube is good, but I prefer Vimeo.

It costs a little bit each year to get the premium Vimeo account, but you can upload more GB per month, and also have videos play HD full screen when you embed them on sites such as a forum or a blog.
http://vimeo.com/

Once you edit your movies at home, you upload right through your browser.
Once the vid is on their server and processed, they give you some thumbnails you can assign to your video, and you can type in text explaining the video, and also insert live URLs on the page.

Corey,

Tanx! Done. I have liked the look of Vimeo a bit more than You Tube. Now I just have to pervert the raw DVD into a format that iMovie can read as no one, except Beloved Spouse and me, would ever want to sit through the full length of these things. But oh, the memories (of the mud, dust, heat, and cold)!

Thank you again.

You are welcome.

Pete, that is a great description of Vimeo verses YouTube, sexier :D

YouTube has more controls if you are going to embed HTML onto a webpage like to change the title bars color and the size of the player, but in Vimeo's case, less is more.

I just like Vimeo better, and most of my vids I make are always put up on Vimeo now instead of YouTube.

Smugmug is also good. Vimeo is great too, but if you already host images on SmugMug, you have unlimited bandwidth on Smug and you can post huge files (I think up to 4GB or something like that).

i think it really depends on what you want to do with the video, if you just want to use it as a host site to post up to forums, various websites and the likes Vimeo is a better option, if you want to make money off of it Youtube has a larger user base and it will likely get better exposure. Vimeo is pretty sweet though... i just have lots of shows i watch on youtube so ive been useing that as my host site.

No commercial interest. These are just videos of various trips taken over the years. It is really amazing to see these images from long ago. Beloved Spouse took video of me digging out the Blazer south of Agadez; the same image that I use as an avatar. Of course, it is just wild to see images of a much younger us! I had hair, and lots of it! Who knew? :)
