Tuscarora State Forest in Pennsylvania

This weekend I spent a few days exercising my RAM 3500 with it's AEV Prospector package and Four Wheel Camper pop-up camper. Saturday was windy and rainy while Sunday turned out to be a beautiful fall day. I spent Saturday night being rocked to sleep by the gusty winds atop Bowers Mountain and loved every minute of each day.

Here are a few pictures to share:

Saturday afternoon on top of Blue Mountain.

Sitting in the forest listening to the raindrops meet the leaves.

Dropped down off the mountain for a very early dinner at the Blain Hotel which has been open since 1846.

Picked up some supplies at an Amish store in Blain before heading back up onto the mountain.

I forgot my book so I checked the local library but they were already closed.

Sunday was a bright beginning to a new day. I hiked for around two hours and felt wonderful.

Fresh bear scat close to where I camped. I didn't recognize the types of seeds so I am not sure what it was feeding on but the meal was juicy. I tried to smell also but was unable to detect any specific odors from berries.

Here is an abandoned railroad tunnel from 1893 on Conococheague Mountain. It collapsed internally several times during construction so it was never completed.

Departing wonderful Tuscarora State Forest and heading back to plan for another adventure.

Great choice! A buddy and I explored that forest extensively via 'cross and mountain bikes over the last couple of years. I'm shocked that I haven't seen more postings from the Bower Mtn. Road Campsite---its incredible. Did you make it to the plane crash site? There are still found remnants of the melted parts that were found in the area. Its a sad story.

One of my goals was to visit the plane crash site (40°13’0.1” -77°33’26.7”) although I ran out of time during this trip. Darn, looks like I must head back soon. If you are interested I attached a PDF with the accident report (first three pages).

The Bower Mountain disbursed campsite I stayed at is located at 40°17’11.2” -77°28’12.5” and was absolutely wonderful.

Glad to see you're out putting the truck to good use! Must be satisfying to put it to use it after the build process.

It does feel good, thank you. I still have a handful of work remaining for the truck - mainly mounting my lights and air compressor. Once 4.89 or 5.13 gears become available they will be installed along wtih an ARB air locker. And then there is the pop-up camper...right now I like how open and flexible it is although plans include solar up top, fridge, stove sink and heater inside. I will keep it simple though - no rush. It's just so much fun to finally take her out and explore the mountains.
