Trailer tongue extension question

For me,

Easier to back.
Easier to jack knife for parking without getting into body.
With more tongue weight it seems to pull better.
My tongue is adjustable so I can fit in one parking spot (TJ).
Easier to add tongue box.
Can open tailgate and spare tire carrier without unhooking trailer.
And easier to back with full size vehicles.
There may be more but that's most of my reasons.

I want to extend mine. I want more room on the tongue for a battery box and either gas or water and still be able to open the tail gate. I also would like the option to have my 15' kayak on it without it hitting my jeep. But for that to work I'd want an adjustable one, longer for on the highway or with the kayak, and short for on the trails.

I see many extend the tongue on their military jeep trailers.

Question I have is. For what purpose?
Generally the wheel base measured from your hauler's rear axle to the trailer's axle
should be about the same measurement as the hauler's wheel base.

Mine was extended to add a different coupler (Maxx C.)
My original lunette was left in place as back up (Pintle hitch stowed on board)

I also wanted to mount a spare tire to the front
and needed a little more room for that.

Wanted rear access to my truck's tailgate when the trailer is attached ( inline / @ 90* )

But most primarily...
to allow my trailer to swing a full 90* plus a little
and not cause damage to the sides of my hauler.

Think my Tacoma is somewhat wider then a jeep.

I'm too long to fit in a single std stall... (unless it's for semi's at the way stops)

But I can fit into two... backing the trailer into a 90

^ will require some backing skillz tho'
