Toyo Open Country AT3 - 34/10.50/17 - anyone running them?

I was looking at the Toyo website recently and noticed that Toyo has introduced a 34/10.50/17 version of their Open Country AT3 tires.

I'm curious if anyone is running them and if so, what is the actual diameter of the loaded tire? Toyo states a diameter of 33.5".

I ask because BFG introduced the same size in their K02 All-Terrain family years ago and the tire OD, in usual BFG fashion, was a lot less than they advertised (33.5"). My experience is that Toyos run closer to the actual advertised diameter than BFGs.

Thanks,
Todd Z.

unless you need a D rated tire the 285/75-17 is going to be almost as narrow and a bit taller. I ran the at3 in 35x11.5-17 and they were shorter than my Toyo 35/12.5-17 RT's. I think the at3 as a family might run a bit smaller ala ko2's. I did have a set of the Ko2 in 34x10.5-17's and they were exactly the same size as my falken at3w in 255/80-17....fuggg I have spent a lot on tires lol.

I actually prefer the C-rated tires (I drive an early Bronco) and ran the 285/75/17 size of the last-generation AT3's, which only came in the E load range. Really liked the size and the tires wore like iron and rode like it too. Since Toyo introduced the C load range 285/75 tires I figured I would go back to the Toyos when my 285/70 JL-takeoff KO2s wear out - which appears to be happening a lot sooner than I planned. Saw the 34/10.50s had been introduced and I'm always a sucker for skinnier tire.

Thanks for the input - I think I'll probably just go with the 285/75s when the time comes. The prices aren't coming down on tires either...

The specs of the 34X10.50R17LT are interesting when compared to the LT255/80R17s I have on my Tacoma.
  • 34s are only .4" taller, probably less when loaded
  • 34s are .6" wider
  • 34s have a little less tread depth (15.16/16 vs 16.3/16)
  • 34s are D rated (vs E for the 255s)
  • 34s weigh 5lbs more (+10%) which is a pretty big difference
My goal was to minimize the weight and frontal area of the tire so I think I'd still go with the 255s, but the 34s seem like a great option. I have the AT3s on two trucks currently and have been very impressed with their capabilities on and off road.

My 34x10.5KO2s ran really small as you mentioned.
Had an AT in 255/80R17 been available at the time I'd have gone that route, since they are same outer diameter in real life (in the case of the km2s)

I have been running the Toyo AT3 on my 08 Suburban in the 285/75r17 lr E. Great all around tire and I think it is the perfect size. Plenty of side wall and not to wide for clearance issues and great winter traction.

No long-term experience, but I mounted some AT3s (265/75R16) in Dec and have taken them from snowy/icy winter to Baja beaches and have been impressed so far. More quiet and better winter traction than the Duratracs they replaced. Load E AT3s have more “road feel“ than the Load C Duratracs, which can be good and bad, I was never disappointed with the Duratracs. According to Toyo, in the 265/75R16 size of AT3, the OWL version is 0.2” taller and 2lbs lighter than the BSW version. Supposedly, they come from different molds at different manufacturing plants.
