Tow Bar vehicle recovery is dangerous!

i almost felt bad for laughing at some of those slomo catastrophes.

this happened on a job i was checking out last fall. they used the loader to try to right it, obviously pulling uphill with a great disadvantage. they connected a few 1/2" chains to it and i got about 40 yards away. as it was almost upright the chain exploded. single links and sections from 6" to 4' flew out to the distance i was at. a link hit a tree about 20' from me and i walked over to look at it, it was hot as a coal, just stretched beyond its limits.
so of course, they hooked up again, this time putting the cutter head beneath the boom of the skidder. i went home and tried to forget what i had just seen. IMG_4811.JPG
