In approx 1999-2000, my friend Chris and I visited the famous Mojave Phone Booth. Chris had a 4 banger 1st gen Tacoma (visible in the background) and I had my first FJ 60 (not shown). For navigation I used the 1st edition Trails Illustrated Mojave map, plus dead reckoning. We arrived at approximately 11 am and the phone was constantly ringing. We answered several calls, and the callers seemed to be all from Europe...they sounded German if I had to guess. I had found the location from the then-miraculous internet, and obviously the Europeans did also... they seemed to love calling it. Chris shot some video w/sound of us answering the calls. Then a phone company (Pacific Bell at then time) technician arrived to check out something...we didn't ask. Apologies for the ghastly color...thanks Kodak Ektachrome film! If anyone has any photos of the phone booth they'd like to share, please do it!
