It has been far too long since my last photo trip so this past weekend, along with two like minded individuals, I made The Great Escape into some of Arizona's surreal lands.

As night set in the moon and our campfire provided some magical light on the sandstone among us.

We ventured beyond the safety of our narrow canyon continuing to shoot by moonlight.

During this night shoot we even witnessed a meteor falling to the Earth miles to our south with its green tail lighting the sky. Unfortunately none of use were shooting in that brief second. You will just have to believe me that it was an awesome sight to see.
Around 11:30 we decided we should catch a few hours sleep and then get back up in a few hours to shoot some more night shots before dawn. The temps plummeted to low 20's or high teens which made sleep tough and uncomfortable. Rising to ice both on the outside and inside of the windows of my Jeep I dressed and took two shoots before deciding it was stupid cold and returned to the Jeep starting both the engine and heater.

Sunrise came though the temps were still in the low 20's we dressed and continued to explore the area.

Once the sun finally rose above the canyon walls to the west the details of the rocks were washed away. We broke camp and drove almost three hours to our next campsite.

We again broke camp after the sun rose and headed back to the Navajo Nation for lunch before meeting up with a model for a shoot along the ridge of another canyon.

While some of the light did not live up to our hopes it was a great trip to three great locations with good company. Already planning the next trip!
