The Great Camp Chair Debate

tension style chair all the way, i switched a few years ago due to the sore thigh thing and what a difference in comfort,, the chair itself and the plastic bits are holding up just fine, even if they do break it looks like i'll get at least 5 yrs use out of a $20 chair.

x2 very light, too. adds almost nothing to my total loadout. very roofrack friendly. :)

I have had a Thermarest chair since 1991. It is a great set up and goes well with my x-tra large thick thermarest matress. Had both the matress and the chair for nearly 20yrs! Still works great and very comfy. Looks like they have changed the design a bit though since the early 90s...

I recently picked up a Kelty Deluxe Lounger for car camping. Been through a lot of this style of chair and they seem to last a year or less before they fall apart. I am hoping the Kelty is better. I didn't like it at first because it was uncomfortable...then I adjusted it and it feels great!

Time for a thread resurrection !

I have been shopping for chairs and can not see spending $50.00 plus for a camping chair. Ordered 2 of these today from West Marine.

Discontinued, from $40.00 down to $14.66, and flat fee of $4.95 shipping. 35 bucks for 2 chairs shipped. Cant hurt to try !!

I am down to two chairs now.
The GCI Xpress Lounger, and a Cabelas Lounger.

The latter is a zero gravity chair or whatever they call it, and you can sleep in it.
I bought a second one in the narrower size, it will be going with me in 2011 instead of the first Cabelas one.

I keep the Xpress one in the rig all the time, as I will use it at work too to eat lunch outside if it is a nice day.

since Costco was mentioned as a _chair_ source i'll send this tid bit (i've worked for them for over 17 years...my wife too).

We just picked up two "Tommy Bahama - Reclining Event Chairs" item 533575 for ~40ea. They come in Red, Navy Blue, Royal Blue... The thing we were looking for was stowability in the tube style format rather than flat as we are now in the van, and these have a place behind the dinette backs over the wheel wells. They are quite comfortable (Cari said; "Wow, they feel like our cabelas loungers!") They have the plastic arm rests that also have three recline settings. They fold down to ~ 8"x8"x48". They state a capacity of 250lbs.

Cheers,
Thom

Camp papasan! Nice. The ladies will love it

Which is why I was asking; this girl gets cold sitting around the fire in the winter months, and was thinking the little bit of extra padding and ability to curl up into this chair might be just the ticket :)

Alps Mountaineering Chair

We got two of these and they are very comfortable and fold pretty flat - not at hand to measure just how flat at the moment. Nice wide seat too so no feeling of it sort of impinging on your legs.
