I've also bobbed 8" and dovetailed 16"s & built a rear bumper.

Next is some tires.

Got caught by the crawling bug, but now I'm starting to search for another Toyota to turn into an expedition rig. Part of me wishes I woulda left this thing like it used to be, but I really enjoy all the added capability and some of the awesome friends I'm made in the crawling community.

I'm about to order a set of some 38" TSLs.

I have a JD2 Model 3 tube bender on the way. We gotta finish my buddies exo and then I'm gonna build myself a hybrid interal/exo cage along with a couple other things.

So, I just picked this ol' gal up. It's my DD, I have a really short commute. I'll be stretching her legs on the weekends though. Camping trips within no more than 3 hours from home. May have the occasional long (slow) haul, as in once or twice a year. Nothing more treacherous than a forest service road for her either, mayyyybe a maintained 4x4 trail, no mud bogs or deep deep water crossings. I wouldn't doubt her one bit though. It's been maintained very well before me, and will continue to be. I feel very lucky to have been able to buy the truck. Words, nor pictures could ever do it justice.

Engine:

-22R
-142,000 original miles
-Rebuilt at 112k
-32/36 Double Barrel Weber Carb
-Plastic chain guides replaced with steel
-New headers and exhaust
CLEAN

Suspension:

-OME Leaf Packs front and back HD
-OME NitroCharger Shocks front and back
-Greasable shackles
About 4" above stock ride height

It's pretty damn stiff, and needs some more weight on it. Really want to get a rear tube bender with a swing out tire carrier fabbed up. I'd like to figure out how to get an ARB bumper on the front. If I can't do that, then I'll be happy with a tube bumper up front too. Sliders, not because it's going to be sliding, but to help my wife get in and out! I've honestly already thought about removing a lead from each pack. It's stiff and tall.

Interior:

-Leather bucket seats
-CD player
-Shifters
-Steering wheel
-Pedals
-Seatbelt
-Heat
-2/60 (55) AC
What else do you need?

Driveline:

-Manual steering
Shoulders are getting stronger

Tires:

-Pizza Cutters 235/85/16 BFG AT

Exterior:

-Flat white paint job
-POR 15'd frame
-Previous owner replaced every fastener he could with SS
-LineX'd bed

Plans:

-Soft Topper
*Maybe a bed rack instead
**Maybe both
-Steel bumpers
-Receivers front and rear to take a winch tray
-Some sort of driving light upgrade
*fix the high beam switch
-Couple of Hella or PIAA's for the front bumper

Any suggestions, I'm open to them.

Does anyone have experience with trying to mount a Yakima truck bed rack in one of these trucks? My wife and I do a lot of kayak and canoeing. I want some sort of bed rack, especially if I'm able to get a swing out tire carrier. Throwing boats in the bed just wouldn't be as easy with the carrier. At the same time I'd like a soft topper. Any suggestions on that front?

Nice Hilux! What gears are you running?

I went with 4:88s for mine and will be running 33x10all terrains on the stock rims and 285/75/16 mud terrains which are basically 33s.

Well I tore into her this weekend. I had oil leaking from the rear rubber half moon. Replaced the valve cover gasket, along with the half moons. Got a pair of the aluminum ones from 22RE Performance.

Tracking down a vacuum leak too. I replaced the intake manifold gasket, definitely running a bit better and the leak(s) is(are) quieter. There is another one around the base of my carb. It's a Weber 32/36. Looking at either ordering a rebuild kit for it or maybe getting a new one. I was doing some research on the 38. I guess I would lose some mpg's, but who's counting? The payoff is a bit more power, but how much and is it worth it?

One note: the previous owner installed a dual row timing chain. So that was a cool surprise.

A question: I ordered a valve cover gasket kit from 22RE Performance. It came with everything you need for the job, including a new PCV gasket, which is cool. However the grommets that came with it were much much thicker and just all around different than the originals. Ended up having to re use my old worn out ones as its my daily. I got an email out to them asking about it. Just wondering if anyone here has any insight? I'm assuming I just need longer studs. Good news is, it's a super easy job so no biggie. I'm about to order a whole new cover anyways. We sanded mine down to paint it and found hair lines all over it.

Either way, it was a good time tinkering around on Loretta!

Cheers!
