Super short bed build options

I have a new crew cab dodge, it has the super short bed (5'-7") what are some build options?

I have a family of 3, soon to be 4. plus a dog.... maybe 2 after we have our second baby.

So space is at a premium.

I will need sleeping space for 2, plus 2 little ones. once they are old enough they can sleep in a tent or whatever they want... but i'd like either a RTT or something similar.
I have a flippac for a mini truck, I can either build a cabover camper using the FP as the top...or I was thinking of chopping the whole FP off, and enclosing it so it'd be like a hard shell RTT with an access hole in the bottom. I think that is my best option, but i dont really want to build a big rack that extends over the cab.. but I also dont want it to hang off the back of the truck.. it might look silly..:bike_rider:

I am not sure of any MONSTER RTT's but i'd need a pretty big one to fit everyone in it.

I like the idea of not having to pull all my gear out of my truck to put in a slide in camper.

I dont want to drop the coin on a new flippac.

Anyone got any great suggestions? I havent seen too many short bed builds on here

I've got a 5'5" FX4 and I built a real simple rack for my RTT. I've gone with my wife and myself in the RTT. The kid (10) sleeps in the bed below on some padding with a sleeping bag. Sometime (depending on weather) I'll put a tarp around the bottom of the RTT so the breeze doesn't get to the bed. The dog sleeps in one or the other spot depending on his mood. :)

Thanks. Without the RTT on it, it's pretty handy for other things too.

Material:
Front and side hoops - 1.5 1/8 wall
Square cross bars - 1.25 3/16 wall
Angle iron - 1.5 3/16 wall

I do love your truck. The only thing I wish Ford would have done is made an option for a rear roll down window like the Tundra.

I have a Northstar 6.5ft pop-up camper in my Tundra Crewmax (5.5ft bed). It works perfect and is warm and dry in cool damp climates. I'm actually in it as I type sitting in Homer,AK while it's raining and 48F outside. Sorry, I don't have any photos to post at the moment.

Love your setup.. I have a few images of similar setups from around the web.

What is the height underneath the RTT? I was thinking one could get the room underneath it and have a 2 room setup perhaps... but it may be a little short for a 6' guy.

maybe an adjustable height awning with a room attachment on the rear or other side would be another option for more sleep space

This is my temp setup until my grand
Wagoneer is finished.
Then tent will go on roof of the grand

I'm out of town right now, so I can't measure anything right now. It's not very tall at all though. If I had to guess, I'd say it's only about 3' from the bed to the cross bars.

I was curious as to the distsnce from the ground to the tent when folded open. Thanks..
