Not to stir things up too much, I photoshopped this one looking for ideas on what to eventually do with it. Rear end is actually chopped off right now and awaiting transplant onto whats left of my 96 Tahoe farm/plow truck.

Work in progress but this is what it might look like by the end of this summer.

Anyone building a 2015+ in here? I have a Tahoe from work that my boss doesn't mind me modifying and I'm contemplating if I should put the effort in. Coming from a Tacoma and Jeeps, the aftermarket is tough for these

Awesome Rig. I am new to the group and am about to upload photos of my 2002 GMC Yukon. I am currently working on making it my overlanding rig and could use your help. Which ARB Bumper did you end up going with and was it a "simple" swap or did it require some cutting and adjustment. Second, your rook rack, which did you go with? I am interested in the Rino Rack, but of course, just like with our vehicles, "they" don't make them for us. Did you use your factory rails? What did you have to do? Thanks for your help!

I spent almost 4 hours this weekend unsuccessfully searching for a photo of my 1976 Suburban. A bit of a rough ride but it never got stuck.

Move Bumpers just released this new version. Looks pretty good. They have good support for Tahoes/Suburbans. Also you have to weld it so you do not have to feel like a total schmuck who just buys all kind of bolt-ons... actually have to get your hands dirty.

The Embark bumper looks very tempting, but it makes me wonder how hard it would be to fab something identical for less money. Might be worth it to pay for the kit just for the better/easier high and tight fitment. I also wonder how hard it'd be to do a grill guard/fender wrap on that with some tubing.

So what would be considered as too many miles on a well kept suburban? I ran across a very clean 2500 with the 8.1 and its got 238K. I am not certain of the maintenance history yet though.

Thoughts?

Honestly miles are just part of the equation. Maintenance is a bigger part of it as well as the rust situation. While sure it’s nearly a 1/4 million miles, if the chassis and body are in good shape and not rusted, worst case I could see you having to invest a couple $2-3k into it and still get quite a few more miles and years out of it. At some point in a vehicles life miles are just a number. Condition and maintenance carry more weight. If it’s made it this far in its life and the chassis and body are still good then I’d base my price off of the maintenance history with the expectation you might have to put a little cash into it in the next year or two. I’ve owned several Suburban’s (89,91,01 and my current 04) and the 3 previous ones had well over 300k miles before we got rid of them. And my current one isn’t going anywhere soon. It’s currently got 260k on the chassis but the powertrain is a different story (~160k). I’m fully planning to keep it till 500k. Living in California we don’t have much of a rust issue. The paint will peel off from sun damage before any rust concerns. Good luck man. They are great rigs and last a good long while.

I have nearly 300,000 on mine. Eng, trans,t-case are original to the truck. I usually make sure that it has oil and coolant, then run it hard. This truck has been very reliable no matter what I do with it.
