So, Why did you buy a Land Rover?

I bought a Land Rover because Ken Cameron came back to Vail from the 1996 Camel Trophy with the most amazing truck I'd ever seen. I was dating his soon to be wife's sister at the time and soon as I sat in it I was hooked.

Dang, Sinuhe. Everytime I look at your "white land rover porn" page, I see something new, and I've looked at it dozens of times. Incredible photos.
Last I heard he bought a SCARR truck.

TeriAnn's response reminds me of a time when I had time to write, long before the concept of "VP" crept in to my reality....back then in another life I met her and heard of Land Rovers on the Scion's of Lucas; alas I was but a lad with a "clapped out MG" (to quote Peter Egan) and dreams.
But I did write. And writings like the attached have always been the focus of my dreams, and, if not so eloquently as her response, I too thought the path to making those dreams come true was "Rover"...

I bought a Land rover because I was really into the shape of the car. I find land rover vehicles to be very attractive. I like the high seating position,the tall boxy body and the fact that it has a real frame under it. A REAL FRAME!

I have no idea what that is... Last time I saw him, 3 - 4 years ago he was driving a nice RRC.

Why huh? Well....I always liked the mystique of them, after all they were a pretty rare bird in the US. Was lucky if I saw two in a year. I considered a CJ5, but passed. Looked at a new IH 1-ton pickup, but too much money (about $4500). Then in '74 my dad and I saw an ad for a '62 88 and a Farmall Super C. Seemed like a good match.
Been driving nothing but Land Rovers ever since, aside from a couple of years when I also owned a VW camper. I've found that once I was bit, it was terminal.
I do wish I'd bought the IH as well though.

Bought my first one by "accident." We had moved to Laughlin, NV and were wanting to go out in to the desert to hike trails. A collegue of mine told me I really needed a 4wd to get to many of the good trails near where we lived. I was familiar with Jeeps, my brother in law had a Grand Cherokee. So that is what I looked for. I was planning on trading in our 99 Ford Exploder 2dr 2wd.
Anyway, the Jeeps were more expensive than I wanted to pay. I just happened to see a 96 Discovery for sale at the Land Rover Las Vegas. We bought it. It was our 1st of 6 Rovers.

Anyway, the Jeeps were more expensive than I wanted to pay. I just happened to see a 96 Discovery for sale at the Land Rover Las Vegas. We bought it. It was our 1st of 6 Rovers.

it was an impulse buy, last april, although as a kid I thought a land rover was the coolest thing around, and wanted one.
So I saw a very clean one at a car lot, thought the price was fair; $5500 for a '98 with 92,000 miles on it. I don't regret it, except to tell the truth, it seems like the market is flooded with discos, and I know I could have gotten one for less. In the six months since I have had mine, I have put 8,000 miles on it with no glitches whatsoever. All I have done is service it. I want to add some things to it, like an expedition rack, and some other things to make it bullet proof for a trip this next spring to Alaska. But I have some reservation about investing in it, since there are so many for sale and I am wondering why! Besides that, I love it.

I bought my first land rover series 2A and have owned 6 since.
My Current Disco is a 93 model 2 door with 155,000 k,s on the clock.
Have had a great time fitting it out and touring around Tasmania.
I will never own anything but Land Rovers and will look into purchasing another D1 in diesel TDI to goto the Big Island Australia and into the Victorian High Country and onto Cape York Peninsula in around 2 years.
Saving hard for the trip allready. Must admit I purchased two 20 litre gerry cans and a roof rack and jerry can holder this week and will post pics tomorow night when I get my laptop and Nikon back. As the pictures of the fitting of the roof rack and jerry can holders to the roof rack are on the camera.
I use an old Duron 1000 pc for all my online surfing and my compaq for navigation and Communications in the Disco.
