Shopping for Van Build - What to start with -250 vs 350 vs 450

Hi everyone. I've been looking at some of the builds and around this forum and its a great site.

I am beginning to plan to build a 4x4 van and right now am beginning to shop for the starter vehicle. Specifically I intend to purchase a 7.3 Diesel Ford in the 99-02 year model range.

The plan is to make the van off-road capable, with comfortable space inside. I do not intend to make it a camper, but will pull a camper and use the van as a daily drive-around and off-road vehicle (I don't have to drive to work far or often).

I plan to remove the entire front-end to replace with 4x4, 6" lift and then I also intend to increase the diesel to something closer to 350hp, so any necessary drive train will also be replaced. I will also convert it to a dually.

With that in mind:

What is the difference between an E-350 and E-250?

I am thinking maybe the difference between these two is all in the drive train and suspension, so assuming that all gets replaced, is there significant/any difference between the 250 and 350 lines?

Also, what about cargo vs wagon? Can anyone discuss this nuance?

Thanks in advance!

Marcus
