Two college students decided in January they would go on an expo trip this summer, here is the result.
The Vehicles:
2007 gmc sierra equipped with: all necessary camping/ recovery gear, leveling kit, rigid lights, hella lights, 34" Nitto Trail grapplers, intake, exhaust, bed cover, aux lights, cb radio, dual battery etc.
2005 Chevy Silverado equipped with: all necessary camping/ recovery gear, leveling kit, read aux lights, 34" cooper M/T tires, Intake, Exhaust, Tune, Camper shell, JL audio etc.
Started from San Antonio and headed straight for Fritch Tx, just north of Amarillo about 500 miles for the day. Lake Meredith is located in Fritch where there is an abundance of OHV areas and camping (free) because the lake has receded dramatically in the last few years. It is about a 10th of what it used to be years back.
We had a whole camping section to ourselves mostly due to it being a work night.
Great views
Deceiving lake bed
The next day was the second half of the drive. We drove from Fritch to Copper Mtn Colorado where our base camp was located. Each day we would head out from there to explore.
Ran into some weather in NM
While we were there we would summit Copper Mtn on foot, complete Saints Johns rd, Deer Creek rd, and the highest motor trail in Colorado - Mosquito Pass. Along with some small town exploring on the side. It was snowing at the top of each trail so it was pretty Cold out...for us Texans
First we completed Satins Johns Trail
\
Next was Deer Creek
Finally was Mosquito Pass, with a near rollover down a cliff from a trenched rock on a switch back (and the only two vehicles not atvs or jeeps) we considered this an accomplishment
An Explorer that got in a little too deep
