Today we are sitting above Yuma near Mitry Lake with the snow birds. I probably won’t do much writing here until I get home with my speedy wi-fi signal. But some bits and pieces now and then when I find time. Everyone else is invited to contribute.

This is the steep wagon road where the Oatman Massacre happened in 1851.

If you look close you can see the ruts in the rock from the wagon wheels.

The famous 4x4 goulash tradition lives on but with a new cook.

Great Trip!

This was a great short trip. Those that did not come missed out. I'm sorry I had to leave after day 3.

We covered about 150 miles at "desert crawl" speed and saw a lot of country, helicopters and camera's. We were tracked the whole way. I will leave it to Ace to created a complete itinerary of the trip.

As a native of Seattle, WA where we grew webs between our fingers and toes because of all the rain, being in the desert is always a new and somewhat foreign experience for me.

It was a long drive. I came away with a better realization of the size of the desert area. Hard to believe people have walked all that desert carrying their water and food the entire way.

It was a great life experience and I'm happy to say "We cheated death again".

I had to leave a couple days early due to having some clutch hydraulics problems. I made it home OK with only minor issues. I had to start the engine in first gear with the clutch pedal to the floor to take off (with the clutch dragging) and used the engine rpm to mesh gears when shifting. My biggest problem was at the border control inspection. I anticipated they would let me roll through like every body else in front of me. I was rolling in second gear and they did not give me the go ahead until I was almost stopped. I had to shut off the engine, put it in first gear and restart. I had a few people confused since there was only one lane open.
I will post a few pictures once I get a chance to download them.

Vince, thanks for the report and photos. Hope to see you again near Parker.

Gary, good to hear you’re home safely. Looking forward to your photos.

Mike and Vivian and I moved north to KOFA where we drove a moderate 4x4 trail to well preserved mine HQ and other old structures. Two mile round trip hike to the mine buildings.

That old mine was my first off road, first 4x4 trip and my first as a trip leader. Had a great time, been there many times. My favorite pic from all the trips there:

After a layover day in KOFA Mike and Vivian headed up to Quartsite to look over the sales. I moved north and went back into KOFA for some more exploring. Found the Indian cave and watched a beautiful moonrise. Then early this morning woke up in time to view the blood moon. Today I’m going to check out Palm Canyon then on to Parker tonight.

Palm Canyon Road was smooth gravel but the 1/2 mile hike to the palms was NOT.

The palms in a side canyon.

Looks like a great trip, and some parts a lot like TX. Anymore pictures of the sweet Red Ranger?
