repower the gen 1

this topic is worked to death, so I'm gonna whip this dead horse again, cause the numbers mitsu gives us has my head spinning....

can I use the newer 2.4 turbo engine with my gen 1 automatic?

it seems the 2.4 is the engine to have if 4 cylinder is my choice.

I envision, a gen 1 turbo 4 with built up auto, maybe increasing efficiency a little bit in a transmission known to be a power hog

I see, better power, economy, and greater drivability with this 2.4 turbo.

you must use a wide block 2.4(4g64) this will bolt up to the 2.6 bellhousing if you use the older 6 bolt 4g64 block you can use the 2.6 flexplate if you use the 7 bolt you will need to get a 7 bolt flex plate years ago i helped a friend do this swap and we order a gen 2 pajero 7 bolt flexplate along with oil pan and pickup, thing to remember the montero is rear sump the pickups are front sump.

so the answer in short is no you can't you will need to mix and match parts to build your self a turbo 4g64, but it is do able.

my cur rent bellhousing is 3.0.
but I can likely find a 2.6 somewhere.
