I don’t know of any hard rules, but unless you are winching on level consistent ground, it’s a dynamic load due to the rise and fall of resistance, sometimes suddenly.

Not trying to be argumentative just saying those pops and bang noises that occur during winching operations are load resistance changing. Thank God for plasma line.

I normally carry at leased two of everything and 4 shackles, I have a 9500lb Winch plus I carry a 4 ton puller plus I have a 1600kg Black Rat/ Tirfor Cable Hoist/Winch, and I still carry lengths of 3/8 snatch chain and now I have 2 ARB Portable Compressors in the Cases, 1) Single High Output 2) The twin motor version with the Tank. Love that thing, did I say it's fast, LOL.

I also carry ARB's Speedy Seal Kit and a box of 50 spare seals etc, The lessons of the past have been a good Tutor.
