Real world MPG/experiences

Wife and I have settled on either a 2012+ F150 with the 5.0 or a 2011+ F250 with a 6.2.

Some comparison data:
~15.5 mpg for the F150 and 5.0 :http://www.fuelly.com/car/ford/f-150?engineconfig_id=302&bodytype_id=&submodel_id=
~11.5 mpg for the F250 and 6.2 :http://www.fuelly.com/car/ford/f-250_super_duty?engineconfig_id=299&bodytype_id=&submodel_id=

That's more than I expected... but could be because 250s are usually "working" and 150s aren't.

The F250 (and other 3/4 ton+ trucks) are exempt from mpg standards and are made for work, so mpgs are down the list of priorities. 1/2 ton trucks have become primarily large, do-everything commuter cars.
I'd get the F150 if you won't be towing or heavy loaded, and the F250 if you are.

Yeah I have about a month until I get home so it's a lot of window shopping torture. She is 90/10 in the F-150 camp and seeing how surpsingly good the F-150 MPG is, I'm about 70/30 F150 at this point. Also the 2015-17 F-150 are my fav styling wise of any other trucks out there right now.

2014 F150 5.0 Supercab here. Icon suspension with 305/70/17 Nitto Ridge Grapplers and geared 4.10. Never do worse than 15 mpg around town, which in my case means a lot of sitting in traffic in Seattle. On the highway i typically drive between 70 - 75 and approach 16.5 - 17 mpg.

Given tires and gearing, I think this is really good.

I absolutely love my truck for long trips. Smooth, quiet, and comfortable. With 36 gallon tank, range is fantastic.

That's fantastic! Also I hear there isn't much traffic in Seattle right now so maybe your MPG will go up haha

I've been getting 12 to 14 around town with similar setup. once I get onto the highways its closer to 14.5 maybe a bit more, interstate fa-get about it I'm at like 11 mpg at 80 mph.

Perhaps a better comparison is with F150's that came with the 6.2 option. ~13mpg. So expect a 2-3mpg hit. Maybe closer to 3, since the 250 is heavier.

You know you want solid axles and 37’s.

I suspect a gas Super Duty will sell for a little less than a similarly equipped F150 because its not a diesel.

Oh of course I do. I dream of them. However this 2012 King Ranch F-150 is trying to seduce me.

'14 f150 crew cab 4x4 with 3.5 boost I was getting 18-19 at best I put a cap on it no I get 16-17 at best. Just FYI for adding drag back there. When I load it down for camping it is less than that.

You may also just like the size and capacity of the f250. The 6.2 is a solid motor too. But, how often will it be loaded down etc. Then the size of the 150 may better suit your needs. But I am too drawn to the 250-350. especially the new Tremor. Local dealer has one on the lot with a sticker of $80xxx WHOOOOO NELLLLYYYY thats a lot of cash.

Yep, depends on usage. I wish I hauled or towed more so I could justify a 3/4 ton. But as of now, if I tow, it’s usually once a year. I camp light so maybe 1k lbs in the bed at most (really, if that). Most of it is kids’ stuff we’ve got to take for camps. So I’d ride around with minimal stuff 99% of the time. I don’t mind lower mpg, but now you’re talking 50% less mpg in the 3/4 ton. Doesn’t make sense for me.
But I still want a 3/4 ton! :ROFLMAO:
