How well do they open, and not freeze up, during the winter?

I am just not sure I could ever own a truck without a cap
If you like a topper don’t get ram boxes. I haven’t heard anything negative about them other than finding a rack that fits with them is difficult and they don’t work with a topper.
I guess if you find a truck you like with them, get it, if you get a topper you just can’t use them.

I have a 18 2500 with the 6.4l and off road package. Traded an 18 JKU for it. I absolutely love the truck and almost went with a power wagon but the extra off road capability wasnt really what I needed.

They are awesome trucks, IMHO, and you can't go wrong with them.

I've been getting about 13-14mpg in the city and just about 16.5 on the highway under 75mph.

I looked seriously at them, but thought they would be too narrow when I hauled a 4 Wheeler. The lids also seemed flimsy to me, but that could just have been my opinion. I did read a few reviews of the paint not being great on them.

I am getting 13.5-15.0 mpg now in my F150, so it sounds like I won't lose anything there

If you keep stock sized tires, you should get around that or better. I hit 16–17 on the highway a few times. The 295’s and aftermarket front bumper hurt my mileage some (around 1-1.5 mpg), but it’s still not terrible for a 3/4.

Both are 6 speeds, but which is better and why?

Any one have the specs for each?

The 66RFE hasnt been used in years, the replacement was the 68RFE which is considerably stronger. 120k normal fluid cycle, 60k severe duty cycle. It also has dual fluid filters, Dual face torque converter, Bandless clutches for simplicity and wear, and can lock the Torque converter in gears 2-6. Has a maximum torque input of 900lbs-ft torque.

The Aisin weighs in about 200LBS more than the 68RFE, is not available in the 2500 and has a 30k mile service interval regardless of use. Has dual transmission coolers, and an input rating of 1200lbs-ft torque. The Aisin also has a maximum RPM speed of 4660 RPM, so if it is paired with the 6.4L Hemi, peak horsepower from the engine is reduced to 370 horsepower, instead of the normal 410 horsepower at 5600RPM

Did the 68 come out when the 6.4L debued, as being the standard auto trans?

the 68 came out in 2007 as the standard transmission behind the cummins and have been continually improved and strengthened. From what i can discern, the 6.4 and the 68 have been paired together as standard since 2014, which is also when the 6.4 came out.

I have the 6.4L with the Aisin in a 2016 3500 cab/chassis and love it. IIRC the only way to get a 6.4 with a Aisin was on a cab/chassis and wasn't a option on pickups unless paired with the Cummins. Also had a Aisin with the Cummins for a short time which convinced me to get the Aisin/Hemi combo. IMO the 6.4 is a better truck engine than the 5.7 in a 2500/3500 HD, the 5.7 is good in a half ton.

I love the Aisin trans, that super low first gear helps get the heavy trailer going. I’ve never driven a gasser truck with the Aisin trans, but I bet it’s very solid platform that works great together.

Have you done a fluid change yet? I did my first on at 30k, it wasn’t cheap.

How much is expensive? Should be what, $35/5 L of ATF and $56 for the filters, so $150 total?
