Raised Hitch Cargo Carrier

I currently have a Rola hitch mounted cargo carrier and hate what it does to my departure angle. Has anyone modified a hitch carrier to make it higher? I want to cut the attach tube and re-weld it so it is raised about 18-24" higher. I have searched the web, but cannot find any examples of this.

Has anyone done this? Did it cause any problems? I would love to see pictures.

You could get a high-low receiver adapter. I think they make them around 12" but you would have to check.

I did that, didn’t bother to weld it just reused the bolts the rack came with. I had to section it to fit around the spare.

I like it! This is what I was planning to do. Do you ever scrape on it in your current configuration?

Nope. That said it's a big pain so I only use it if I absolutely need to transport a Jerry can or two.

I’ve done it. As simple as it sounds. I raised mine 10-12” by replacing the male tube that goes into the hitch. Made a new one with two 90s in it to make it taller.

Awesome! Do you have any pictures? I would like to duplicate it. Was 10-12" enough height to avoid scraping it?

Pictures attached but none of the basket mounted to my LC. It’s helped a lot but I’m not getting too extreme.

I purchase one that already had the 'rise' incorporated. Then I modified it so I could have the 'rise' change to a 'lowering' because I had a 2" receiver incorporated into a rollbar cross member across the top back corner of the roll cage. In the 'flipped' config it sits just above the spare tire. Nice for trail riding up there, and yet still able to get it out of the wind down low for hiway riding.
