R2 Trailer Rebuild #3

Yep, just now close to finishing my third reincarnation of this trailer. Found it here on ExPo three years ago. Got it home and decided to rebuild it to my idea of a good ORT. Over time it had many revisions but the latest was selling the RTT (2nd one) and converting to a solid walled unit. Sort of a squared off teardrop with rear door. One trip I did to Baja had me in the RTT for 75 nights and during that trip I decided no more zippers. Now I can climb in close the door behind me and be in the ready made bed in just a few seconds. Photo record of its evolution. I was asked why I didn't just build from scratch once. Looking back I should have. But as my idea of the perfect trailer evolved so did the rig. Besides half the fun is the building. Almost the entire trailer is made out of 2" square tubing with 1.5" round tubing used mostly for the rockers. Weight estimated at 1200# loaded with usual camping gear. Suspension is 5 leaf Jeep front springs with shocks. Running 33" tires on 17" Toyota rims that match what's on my 4Runner.

Still lots of work to finish like windows, vents, wiring, lights, insulation and pull out kitchen.

Nice rebuild. Getting ready to start my third as well. Pics of the inside? Do the sides open?

I do agree, a solid top has a lot going for it. Security, simplicity, quiet in the wind, and actually water proof.

If you mean windows they are going on soon. But if your asking if the sides lift up; no but that gave me a thought about a drop out shelf with screen. Not for sleeping but just room for more stuff.

Agree fully, though I did find one small leak. Easy fix.

Searching for quality windows that don't cost a fortune. I like those that hinge at the top and swing out. Found info on Seitz windows but at $400 each not in my budget. Typical cheap sliders don't allow enough air flow and can't be opened in the rain. Help appreciated.

I thought I had already started one but could not find it. I also posted on FB group "Off Road and Expedition Trailers" and can't remember what I posted or where. Part of that Ol Fart thing.
