Off-roader,

Thanks so much for the help! I leave this weekend to pick up the new rig, so I'll be viewing this thread when I'm in a lowes parking lot somewhere near LA.

I'll update with pictures from the road trip as I go. this sleeping set up will aid so much in the trip.

SO, I wasnt able ot use anyones advice.

Showed up and the timing tensioner failed on the truck. Before I could even test drive it. So I had to pass on the truck, tried to decide if I should spend a week in california and fly back or just try to find something else.

I found a clean as all hell 87 montero, engine bay you could eat off of, underside is even cleaner.

I'm currently in las vegas on the road back to indiana. Wheeled all day in the Mojave preserve and heading out to red rock canyon in the morning.

I'll post a thread about the mini expedition im undertaking with the girlfriend and the montero.

Funny. This is the second time Ive clicked this thread only to realize it's Josh. Haha.

The shortie gen I looks great and i think the hood scoop will make great WRC-style roof vent for my rally car.

Josh and i were talking in the driveway tonight (his new truck looks a lot like mine) and we got to wondering if anyone has sleeping setups for the SWB models. Open the back door and flip out an extension? RTT costing more than the truck? J might have a couple LWB gen IIs at home, but i just have the one and I plan on using it (once I get it back together).

Sorry about typos; typing on tiny remote acrosss the living room on the media center. (I like to watch expo videos on the couch.)

Driggs, I changed out the god awful HID's for some normal halogens, the high beams are functional again!

Red rock canyon off roading, vegas, lake mead, then on to phoenix to hang out at gearbox magazine headquarters, then over to colossal caves in tuscon, gem show, into new mexico. getting there. Started running funky tonight, like it was running out of fuel. I pulled off to stay for the night and low and behold, there's two autoparts stores next to the hotel. I'm suspecting the fuel pump may be on its way out. More news after a nights sleep.

LOL. You've already done more off-roading than I have in my first year with mine.

Hope you get the fuel issue sorted, mate.

Changed the fuel filter, found a mechanical pump at AZ, going to hit the road and see how it acts before I change the pump. The filter was old and definitely looked original, hope it was the cause. Only 1600 more miles to go.

On the v6 the fuel pump is accessible via an access port in the rear floor so no need to drop the tank to access it. Not sure about the 2.6 but I imagine Mitsu would have done the same setup. I know for sure the guys on 4x4wire's Mitsu tech and AZ forums have dealt with this issue in their 2.6's should you need additional help.

First the rear most support. The other 3 are done the same way. Originally we put the turnbuckle inside the pvc pipe which has holes drilled into it but I found it too difficult to tighten it properly so I did it this way instead.

To prevent loosening, install nuts on the threaded rods, tension the turnbuckle, then snug the jam nuts against the ends of the turnbuckle.

Thanks Jim! Good suggestion and I actually also thought about doing that but just been too lazy. For the most part it's been a decent setup albeit it has come undone a couple of times hence the reason I thought about doing it the next time... hasn't happened again so far.

The 2.6 has the unit on the front face of the tank. A pretty cappy spot for people like me who live in the rust belt. My original SWB tank was so bad I broke of the hard line coming out with about three back-and-forths. Knew it was bad and had a good donor at the ready, thank goodness.

made it home safe and sound, welcomed home by snow. Parked the truck in the heated garage until i figure out what I want to do with my accidental purchase.
