Yes... I think I can imagine it too but it would be easier with pictures. :coffeedrink:

This NMO mount

Just fits the hole

I run open top most of the time, I'll add a plastic grommet to my soft top for the antenna to go through when I need it.

They also work well for the external speaker which is essiential in an open top truck

Here is my Yaesu FT817 install...

I picked up a Yaesu FT817 for use in my wifes GMC Acadia...
Turned out so nice I thought I would post it here... sorry for the poor picture quality.

Mounted the radio in the center counsel, the center has a huge storage hole covered by a retractable cover.

I just used some industrial grade velcro from Lowe's... and just struck the radio to the side of the storage area. Then I picked up a second storage tray (my wife frowned on cutting up the original:Wow1:) so I took the new one and cut it to fit around the radio... It works great to store the mic and cord.
The best part is when not in use I can pull the cover over and you can't see the radio at all.

I cut a small hole in the bottom of the bin and routed the antenna cable to the rear of the Acadia. The bin already had a power point in it so I just plug the factory power cable into that. Works great since I put a rechargable battery pack in the radio. So now the radio is always ready to just tear it out and operate fully walk mobile. The battery pack is big enough for a hour or two of operation at full 5 watt output.

The antenna is a 19" dual band mounted to a adhesive back mounting system from Diamond HRKS and thin RG316 cable.
The mount even lets me fold the antenna down behind the luggage rack when I take the car through the car wash.

I know the 5 watts is a limiting factor, but we have two strong repeaters in town and I don't miss the power at all... best of all I have a bag in the car that has a HF antenna so I can reach out and touch the world from any park bench at a moments notice.

CB setup:
Cobra 29 Nightwatch, 4' Firestik II antenna, some remote speaker, can not remember the brand.

Bandi mount (a guy on fjcruiserforums.com came up with the mount and sold them) replaced a factory chunk of plastic that was there.

Antenna on the mount.

The mic is on the left side now, not the right like in the photo.

Ham setup:
Yaesu 857D radio, YSK-857 Separation Kit to remote mount the head off of the radio, Diamond GLP58 mounting group for the bumper, Valor VS4 Big Mouth mobile extension speaker, Diamond MX62M duplexer (lets one antenna do all of the frequencies the radio can do), and an ATAS-120a antenna on the ARB bumper.

Used a mount that I had used when the iPod use to be out in the open, it now resides in the glovebox.
The remote head unit fits it very well and is in easy reach.

Because I'm moving over to fixed battery setup rather than as I showed above with battery inna ammo tin I and a friend have fitted some batteries in the battery box. It was a bit of a squeeze though

This shows the two batteries in the box. The orange thing is the split charge thingy. That is mud in the box too  Hence:

It has been moved to a plastic box and the external fuse will be replaced by a weatherproof one which I have here ;)

At two locations in the vehicle (one up front and one in the back next to the rig) I'll have one of these little boxes based, although it'll have a cover on obviously :D

I think that will be enough power/sockets ;)
