Here is my 17 Host on my 16 truck. I installed 6 6volt deep cycle and a 4k PSW inverter. It powers the whole coach including the AC or the electric fire place. I also carry a 2k Honda for recharge.

Where did you put the 6 batteries? And what were they? Looking to order a Host like yours in a few weeks........

SOME Cabovers are humongous nowadays.

Fixed it for you Dave. At least they're on appropriate trucks! And for what it's worth, I agree with Jonnyo that there isn't too much "poor man" going on in Spitfire or zb39s rigs. XV-LT 0018 recently sold for $108,000 with only 60,000 miles on it. That's pretty reasonable for an Earthroamer. Both posted here are very nice set ups, but far too big for my needs. I'm happy with my single rear wheel and non-slide set-up. If I had a couple of kids along, the formula might have to change though.

2 fit in the battery compartment and 4 went in the gen set compartment. I did not order the gen set. I could have fit 6 in that compartment. If your going to order I would check out the 40 page thread on ordering a Host Mammoth over at RV.net under truck camper. Sorry, I don't know how to link it. You will love the Host. This is my 3rd TC and 8th RV. I use the better 6 volt batteries that SAMs sells. I have added extra batteries in all my RV's and have always bought those. Never any issues and I get years out of them.

When I didn't have kids we were happy with a Tacoma bed and a thermarest. Kids change things for sure. My rig is humongous compared to an expo truck, but tiny conpared to most RVs. It's a hedge, so we vcan still enjoy the forest.

Getting the little buggers outside and off their "devices" is a great plan. When I was growing up we had a Westphalia we bought in Belgium and dad came back to NA with it on a freighter followed by a 2wd GMC with a 10' camper on it. I'm sure it was the height of luxury back then, but my brother and I were always in a tiny $5 tent while the folks were in the camper. (I wonder what they were doing in there??). I think the rainy nights in the tent were character building. At the time I recall them being miserable!

Eclipse 2017 - Casper, WY

From a recent 20 day, 6,000mi loop out West to photograph the eclipse. Found a high ridge with a 360 degree view, NW of Casper, WY that I had all to myself. A custom trailer is in the works for a Winter build, so made do with a rental unit for this trip. Spent a week in the Spokane area helping a friend with her remodel project, so had the trailer full of tools that normally wouldn't be part of the equation.

How's this for avoiding the eclipse hordes??? About a mile and a half off a remote paved road near Arminto, WY.

400 watts of solar kept things humming along nicely...

Nice pics, nice spot! We only got about 90% coverage where I am just north of Seattle. It was interesting, but no more to the dark them we've had with the weeks of forest fire smoke. It's been so thick you'd think it was twilight at noon!

6.5' home built Nissan Frontier camper.

Here are a few photos of my Hard sided camper I built from an old electricians topper that was meant for a ford F150 with the tapered bed.

The point was to keep the cost down while still making something I could use for winter camping, I believe I have around 1,000 into the camper as it sits. There are still many modifications I'd like to make. The main modification coming up is to turn it from a topper into an actual slide in that can be removed with a fork lift. I'm looking for waterproofing ideas for the underside of the camper. I should have done this on the original build but I was in a rush to get it finished for the winter to go out west.
