Wow! That is one long overhang! Hope you don't drag it too often. Check last year's trip http://panamtallman.wordpress.comhere.
Hermosillo, Creel, Hidalgo, Zacatecas, Aguascalientes, Guanajuato, all by ourselves. Not until Teotihuacan did we have fellow travelers, then Puebla and Oaxaca. By ourselves again into Guatemala and then with snowbirds on the return up the west coast. I should ask if you have downloaded the iOverlander.com app? Plenty of wild and established campgrounds, but the middle of the country is a bit under-discovered.

Doesn't drag at all... yet! And yeah we've been using ioverlander here and there. We've been in Hidalgo for a week now and it's been pretty sweet... Yeah it seems like there is a lot to do in the central areas of the country, a lot of parks and cool stuff all around the outside of Mexico City

Thanks for taking us along for the ride, we've been in Mexico 17 times but never in the Central part and are looking forward to start planning that area for a run. Enjoy and we'll look forward to your updates!

Wife and I just finished six months in Mexico. We are now in Belize. We did the Baja peninsula and the Pacific coast down to Salina Cruz and didn't run into any overlanders until we stayed in Zipolite in Oaxaca. Beaches in the summer are not a popular option, but we're surfers so...

We stayed at campgrounds a lot, but we probably wild camped at least once in every state we went through including Michoacan. (Michoacan was actualy one of our favorite areas) No problems yet. If we get a bad vibe we move on. You can also talk to locals and the local cops. Ask them if it is safe to camp on the beach. Most people don't want crime in their town, so they will let you know if they think it's a bad idea and you get a chance to make friends with your new neighbors.

You can stop by Overlanders Oasis near Oaxaca city. Its pretty much a sure bet you'll meet some like minded individuals there. You said your using Ioverland. Keep using the App and your bound to start running into others.

Thanks for the input! We have been seeing you on ioverlander, we stayed at that wild camp spot/hike you marked at El Chico national park, what a place! We are in Teotihuacan now, trying to stick around the outskirts of Mexico City for the next month so we can meet up with some friends there in January.

Cool! Glad you found the spot in El Chico. We weren't sure if the directions were good enough. Pico de Orizaba was cool too if you like hiking. A bit of a drive, but not super far from mexico city. Have fun!

Mantenga las imágenes que vienen. Son, young grandson and I have a short visit to Puerto Lobos, Norte de Sonora this month. Thanks for your Mexico travel blog. Your pics and words a reminder of how travel outside comfort zones can be a great experience. Tocando los bordes delgados de la vida.

Oh ****! Whats up guys? Good to hear from you... We are slowly heading back north now, currently staying a couple days in Puerto Escondido before continuing on towards Acapulco then back towards Guanajuato again. We'll be stopping in the northeast to visit family after coming back to the states and then back to Colorado for the summer/fall in search of work. Hope to see you guys around then if you're still there :)

Stopped over in San Jose del Pacifico for a night on the way to the coast, cool town, many wandering hippies around though, kinda felt awkward for the people in town. Highway 175 was also a blast to drive.
