Outdoor Adventure Net

We are almost ready to hit the airwaves with the Outdoor Adventure Net. We will be able to cover the San Diego area, Orange County, the greater Los Angeles area, much of the Inland Empire and parts of Ventura County. We are working on coverage for the High Desert and may have it covered by the time we key down for the first net.

While all of the details of the Outdoor Adventure Net are not determined, we can give you a general idea of what it is all about. As the name implies, we will focus on a very wide range of outdoor adventures, obviously with an emphasis on Amateur Radio and the use of motor vehicles to get to the adventure. The following will serve as basic guidelines:

1. This will not be a vehicle specific net. While many, (if not most) of the adventures which we will cover will require 4x4, we will welcome two wheel drive adventurers.

2. The topics for discussion will include, but are not limited to, first aid, off-road communication, vehicle recovery, trail tools and equipment, trail and wilderness navigation, (viz., GPS), emergency equipment, camping, firearms, photography, trail etiquette, survival techniques and equipment, and Ham radio licensing and upgrades.

3. Depending on the level of participation, we are considering topics such as event notification, run of the month reports, camping trip reports, trail reports and notices regarding various classes/forums/web sites which promote outdoor adventures.

Your ideas and thoughts are welcome. Our start date is tentatively set for February, 2008 and we will post the frequencies where you can listen as well as the date and time for the nets. While you will need a Ham license to participate in the nets, anyone can listen, licensed or not.
