The 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month..
Canada Remembers.
I love Remembrance for what it is.
Remember those who gave their life to protect ours.
But for many people they see soldiers as war, violence, death. Especially refugees who are only here to escape the horror of war. Immigrants, refugees may not realize Remeberance Day and the Poppy is not a celebration of conquest which they are fleeing. You arrive as a refugee, speking a different language, eating different food, enriching our country with your culture, ME, as a Canadian, I need to be patient, look for the opportunity to explain our values.....
Remembering the horrors of war, a moment of silence for fallen soldiers everywhere is a universal thing. It crosses international borders. It SHOULD unite us to celebrate peace. It should motivate us to avoid war. For those reasons I wear a poppy. In the hope of peace. With the dream of seeing us spend money on health care and education and missions of peace instead of munitions and weapons of war and aggression. With the goal of diplomacy and security and safety for all nations and all people being our highest value.
I wear a poppy to remember how much war costs.
No wonder we are not always welcome as explorers, tourists, overlanders.
