Mike and I get boat ready as rain sweeps across downriver..
Idling away from landing in Wickliffe,Ky. headed north a few miles to where Ohio joins the Miss.(so we can say we've traveled every mile from Minneapolis to New Orleans)..
note sandbar in mid-river right behind the channel buoy..
Miss. River makes sweeping bends and actually runs north in places...if we could have hopped over the narrow neck of land,it would have saved us 16 miles of running....
can anybody explain to me how to make this %$#* post full size pictures?
towboat with three stacks are usually pushing 35-48 barges...this one is southbound traveling with current so there won't be miles of stirred up river...
Corps. of engineers dredge boat...dredge sucks sand off bottom and blows it for current to disperse downsteam...
Memphs skyline
next time you cross the river on I-40 bridge, you will know the view from underneath the bridge looks like..
river channel is near far left bank and bends to the right below island ahead...
GPS shows boat traveling through chute behind the island...this chute had plenty of water(17ft) behind the island at this river stage...
canoe couple...built this canoe paddled all way from noblesville,Ind. to new Orleans...they finish their trip approx. two weeks after we encountered them...
back in main channel...depth is 72.4 ft,speed 25.7 mph and we've traveled 118 miles...water temp 80F which made for a cool ride...
