Offroad tool kit

Huh. All things I use a ball peen and pry bar for. But I guess when you only want to carry one tool it'll work.

unlike a shop box, road kits' tools need to be a little more versatile in their application. it is a fine line between the swiss or multi-tool that does everything poorly and a tool which can be put to more than one task with a fairly high degree of efficiency.

one of the first contractors who took a chance employing me stressed "think of your hammer as an extension of your hand".

in any event, don't bother with wooden handled hammers. if you get a steel shanked hammer, prepare yourself to be accompanied by a "ring" ever time you strike a blow.

Boy-you just invited the bad karma.

I was sort of agreeing with you until this. I have seen portable welders save the day (including this past week) when frames crack, or mounts break or whatever. It does not mean there was abuse. Unpredictable things happen that you can't always prepare for, and a portable welder is just one more tool in the arsenal. Just because you have not seen the need yet, does not mean you won't need it. And when you do, I hope you will remember this post!

Just this past week on the Dusy, we used a welder to fix a FF rear axle that tore out it's mounting studs, and weld up a spring hanger that had cracked and was slowly tearing off the frame. 6 weeks ago on the Rubicon, there were similar issues including a cracked and flexing power steering pump mount on my own truck that was fixed in 5 minutes with a Ready Welder. The mount was solid before the trip and the truck had done that trail previously dozens of times.

Anyway, go ahead and laugh, but you may be lucky enough that someone without your attitude will stop and help you climb down off of your high horse.

The ironic part is it is usually someone else who needs the guy with the welder. Welding comes with it's own set of support equip. A grinder and some scrap are usually handy. A cordless sawzall beats a hacksaw any day. LOL

I've welded u joint caps to broken yokes with sucess before, you never realize how creative you can be when you must.

anyone rockin' a pipe wrench (or a pair)? I can see it being useful in a prybar/ bf hammer sort of situation. search indicated the reference would be in this thread, but I couldn't find it.

I've got a rigid 8" & 10" (aluminum) just waiting for someone to reinforce my suggestion that they would be of use. thanks

Pipe wrenches work and tend to bite hard. I recently bought a irwin quick adjust pipe wrench to pack along. it handles nice but verdict is still out on real time use.

My gear is only slightly better than britklr............lol

My favorite item and most used is the canvas tarp. it makes a great drone landing pad and a super lay down/on mat. The families favorite is the wool blend blanket. Has kept a few bodies warm in our safari topped CJ

Adventure Tool Co makes great stuff and it will last a very long time. Thinking of getting the tarp myself, I have other items from them.
A pipe wrench is a great versatile tool and I only use hammers with wooden handles, cushions the shock.
