Octagonal (Bike?) Box Mounted on Bumper?

A couple days ago I saw a rig on the highway. It had a large, rotomolded box on the inside of a swing-out tire mount on the back bumper. The box was on the inside of the swing arm, against the tailgate, while the spare was on the outside. The box was octagonal in shape, measuring 3 to 4 feet across and about a foot thick. I'm thinking it may have been for a folding or partially disassembled bike. I've since been looking online for this, but can't find it. Does anyone recognize the description? Thanks.

There's been a few enclosed trailer hitch bike boxes over the years. Not sure if that's what you mean.

Is it possible they just mounted or were carrying a plain hard sided bike shipping box on back?
