The Duplicolor Metalcast spray paint really does work well. I've tinted HIDs with it and they get plenty hot.
The Rosco gels are legendary in lighting.

You guys do know I'm a lighting geek, right?

I didn’t, but I should have guessed. ?

Do you keep a copy of “Light: Science and Magic” handy? https://www.amazon.com/Light-Science-Magic-Introduction-Photographic/dp/0415719402

Matt, there is a red diffusion Rosco SuperGel. It would be useful for softening the light for your purpose. The likely free swatch-book would allow for experimentation with a small light source, maybe a bright LED flashlight. You could find a way to clip a sheet over each light when stopped, it would be obvious you weren’t planning to run red forward facing lights on the road. ?. I’m not sure this is the high temperature stuff, but it might give you ideas. https://www.adorama.com/ro120.html

Matt ---- your lights are halogen, right? Did you ever watch the color temperature change using a dimmer?

My lights have H4 (dual-filament bulbs). How would I use a dimmer to change the color temperature?

Cool project!
Pick a circuit and wire in a rheostat; I'd pick the lowbeam (driving). https://www.amazon.com/Volt-Dimmer-...1526394186&sr=8-4&keywords=12+v+dimmer+switch
You could give Ray or Dave a call and see if they have a brand they like too: http://www.rallylights.com/
Or ask Virgil here: http://www.candlepowerforums.com/vb/forumdisplay.php?87-Automotive-Motorcycles-Included

Halogen yields a very pleasing glow at lower voltage. E-Z on D I

Could I use it with my S-POD switches? Do I need a separate dimmer for each light or just one for all four windshield lights?

PS - I let my kids pick out the swtiches . . .

You could wire in one dimmer but you'd need it to be one that can handle that much wattage.
I don't think it would get along with your S-pod though.
They have sliding ones, dial ones, electronic. I use a mess of them at home for my lighting. I've got PWM types, rheostats, I even have one that's a remote control dimmer in my home theater.

Nice choice of switch labels! Those really should be factory options too.

Work ----- I drink beer at home and shout at the evening news.

Ah. Well, for non-work lighting, as you mentioned dimmed halogen lighting, you might enjoy the book I mentioned above.

Be careful, watching the evening news can be hazardous to the health of people who have respect for others. ?
