I got a crazy idea for a Jeep Trailer the other day. I thought somebody might like what I’m doing right, or wrong. I will post photos as it progresses. I started about a week ago in my spare time.
exactly ^^What's the "crazy" part?
Maybe un-typical would have been a better descriptor. I am going to build a trailer that in some ways is similar to many of the military ones we see, yet also quite different. The two sketches are what I mean. In the center of the trailer is a smaller tub then you see on the typical military trailers. On the outside will be six large ammo cans, or “rocket boxes” that will hold my stoves, cook kits, camping gear, etc. What's the "crazy" part?
I put a 3000 pound axle under it. The tongue is 2 inch square tubing 1/4 inch thick. Then I welded a 1/4 X 2 inch flat bar under it to stiffen it up. I doubt it was needed, but peace of mind. I took it on a long trail last weekend and it tows real nice!I like it. I like the modularity so you can have ammo boxes with different contents for various purposes: set of boxes for general use, a set for hunting and camping, another for hardcore off roading etc. Very nice!
What are the details on the axle, springs and tongue.

The main frame is 1 X 3 X .125 tubing. It is reinforced with 1/4 inch wall where the shackles and tongue weld in. It is also gusseted in several areas.Whats the dimensions and thickness of the steel you used for the rest of the frame?
Most of it is 1x3 .125.Whats the dimensions and thickness of the steel you used for the rest of the frame?
