New Splitting Maul

For some good forged mauls/splitting wedges, check with a local wood cutting store - one that caters mainly to the chainsaw/logger crowd (I don't recommend going to a big box store for these specialized items). You should be able to get a good wedge for around $20-30 (but a maul will run you more).

I'm a Gransfors-Bruks fan. Not only are the razor sharp and hold an edge well, but they're beautifully crafted, well balanced and truly heirloom pieces. I hate using cheap crap.
