DAY WHATEVER!!!!

So today was awesome!!! I was going to head to canyonlands but got ties up sleeping in a very expensive below par hotel!! Im playing it was OK emphasis on OK it was clean and warm/cold that all I can ask for the only problem I had was the price. Damn it was high, the same thing at home would ha e been 29.99 night!!! Anyways slept decent, noticed that I have evidently disturbed my rib fractures cause I can now feel those again which sucks. After getting up I decided to go get some breakfast at Moab Diner which was great, reminded me of Waffle House

264f1dac469542750f41f85d07847694.jpg

After that I decided to go check out Moab Rim which was on my map. So a little side note, alot of my map consist of me just finding places that folks have talked about and place marking it. Alot of time I don't remember what exactly it was that drew me to th e place to begin with!! So once I got there I noticed that the Trail haad was pretty intimidating, after asking a guy that was there with a side by side he said that the Trail was way rough and he wouldn't take his stock side by side, 4seat big one, down it. I asked him for a better Trail nd he said to try hell's revenge and since I had lockers should be good.

I'm so glad I meet this guy cause man this was EXACTLY what I had been wanting to do for 4yrs go 4 wheeling through Moab. Guys I was like a damn kid in a candy store that gave away the candy and the hottest toy out t the time!!! I was STOKED.

Moab's official vehicle is a Jeep I think!!

Everyone was gathered to watch people try to crawl up this sketchy *** cut off, so I decided that I would grab a beer and watch too

I have vidoe if the crawling up it. One almost tipped but everyone makes it! Here's my beer and a bad *** view!!

Here's the conversation
Ford Guy: yeah everytime I come out here something about the flexing makes the u-bolts break
Ford Guy: you just can't find good strong parts in Moab
Me: Can you find a Toyota?

On that note I was out!! The Toyota guy told me about these things called Hot Tubes that folks drive their Jeeps in, well I went and fond one. Check this out

The off road I did today was by far the most extreme I have ever done. I don't think that it's a 10 level but a strong 4-5 none the less I had a blast and even scared up the 4runner a little. The pics don't do any justice to how steep some stuff was. Here is a downhill and shoot from the dash mount

I had a great time. Moab is a great place it reminds me of a big Beach town and instead of the beach everyone gathers at the parks and trails with 4wheel drives, side by sides, bikes and so on.

After finishing Hell's Revenge, the Trail I did, I stopped at the loading area where I might add everyone was pretty impressed that the 4runner did it!! I talked to a guy that said there was another Trail that I should go on that was great to chill and drink beer, so I went into town ate a bad *** burrito, grabbed some beer and ice nd went back!! The Trail was Fins & Things. He had said that this Trail was easier however I didn't see that I thought they were the same. After riding for a little while I noticed that Daylight was running out. I was anxious to get out because I was unable to see and had now ended up on a hard Trail called porcupine Trail.

I was tearing **** up cause I couldn't see!!! Finally I made it to the main road. I tried every camp ground in The park and all were full!!! I had talked to some guys from aalt lake city that mentioned Lone Mesa Camp. After about 30min drive and 20min set up, I'm now writing this from a wonderful arrangement in the back of my 4runner. Tomorrow I plan on going to Canyonlands then hooking back up with the TAT.

Till next time,

PEACE

If I was in your place I'd have a -30" sleeping bag to sleep in. Strip to your sleeping garment of choice and crawl into the bag. It's difficult to stay warm with all your clothes on.

Tip: Roll up your clothes and put them in the bag with you. They'll be as warm as you are when it's time to get dressed.
I am enjoying your trip very much. Thanks for posting it up.

You know I've heard of the strip down deal and it just doesn't make any damn sense!! I may try tonight. I have a military sleeping bag.

DAY 13???(I think)

So today I woke up to a beautiful view in a Camp called lone Mesa in Moab
585312b4225396596efc8e0ecabe7b2c.jpg

After I woke up I decided to get on the Trail with no specific place to go just drive on Trail until I find suitable camp. The drive was good around Moab and was very beautiful

Then I started up the mountain to go over it and started to see snow. Now I'm in short sleeve shirt shorts and the sun's beating down its about 65° when I come across a sign that says road impassable in Winter enter at your own risk. Well current condition and time says we should be good. So up the mountain I traveled.

I had traveled half way up when I slightly MIS calculated the depth of the snow I was approaching!! After I realized I was good and stuck (no driving aids helped, nothing I knew how to do would help) I stepped out and sunk to my knees in snow!! Remember I'm wearing shorts shot sleeves and my DC shoes with ankle socks!!

Sorry I didn't get many pics of the 4runner stuck, I was too busy trying to get out. I had no service and was legit stuck for 3hrs no less!!! I used my come along to inch out as best I could. I finally resulted to vigorous and violent reverse, drive, reverse, drive turn wheel so on and repeat. While using the come along too. Finally after I was to the point of just taking a nap with the truck running to melt the snow packed under it I got out!! So I had to back track a total of two hrs so a total of 5hrs had been taken up with this!!!
On the way down I saw this guy with an ear tag and tracking collar. Poor fella

I finally got to the Trail outside Gunnerson Iowa when I found Yuba State Park. I checked it out and it had full cell service and this view

Sounds like you're having a great time. Ditto on keeping your clothes in your sleeping bag. I used to do that in the army! I would strip down to my skivvies roll my uniform up and keep it in the fart sack with me. In the morning nice and toasty!

DAY 14

OK so today was good, no issues!! I did wake up during the night to find that for whatever reason my zipper on my sleeping bag broke which I'll be honest that was the most comfortable camping all trip. I can't wait till I get some better weather and I can camp more in my tent. I brought two bags one I had bought, just a little 40$ light bag, and one that my girls uncle gave me that was issued to him in the military. It's great but like everything else government owned, flawed!!! Anyways the wind picked up considerably last night and it was raining. When I woke up I had a break in the rain and I decided to cook breakfast. This is where **** went south!!! I stepped in the spatula and broke it and the eggs got smashed by the ice in my cooler that shouldn't need ice!!!! So instead of cooking food I just cooked coffee. Trying to undo a tent in higgt winds is a hassle in itself!!! Finally after getting all packed up I was on my way, here are some of the views from today's drive

I came down this mountain and experienced the most dramatic scenery change I have ever seen. It went from grass and rock to this weird sand

After I picked some of the sand up to feel it I noticed it had a crazy texture and stained my hands and shoes. All I could think is that these are salt flats. My mom's husband later said that is exactly what they were.

Stopped to take some pics of the pony express station

So after driving for 250miles without any gas stations or anything really, I came across West Wendover NV. I got gas and an Arby sandwich, a fav of mine since a kid!! I realized it was windy as hell, and only 40°, the Pilot wanted close to 15$ for a shower and the room at the casino with a bed and a shower was only 20$ more. So guess where I'm at tonight!!!

So right now I'm down the street at the other Casino because they gave me free drink coupons to the bar 2 for the one I'm at and 2 for their sister Casino down the Rd that they won't take at mine!! I drove down here to catch u guys up then I will be back at my room for some good night rest. Till tomorrow!!!

VIDEO

Hey guys as promised here is the video I have taken.

I have TONS more video and what I would like to find is someone who really knows what the hell they are doing with editing and so on and make a bad *** movie out of it. So anyone who knows how to do this let me know. Here's my attempt using only the phone. It is a bit longer than the last video and if you don't like it I'm sure you will find the exit!!! Hidden bonus is a funny *** seen!! See who finds it first!

Maxtrax are a great addition to a recovery kit. I've used them in two feet of snow while wheeling in Colorado. Those are critical especially when you're out on your own without any kind of winch.
