My latest Eurovan build "Snap Dragon"

The latest van has come along far enough to post some pictures.

Here is what we started with. A well loved 2003 Eurovan Westfalia.

Lots of little dings, torn and patched top, poorly installed roof rack but otherwise a solid platform to reform.

We came up with a very fun plan for this van! The first thing to do was to strip it down!

....all the way

These are the two factory colors I repainted the van in.

Here are the winter wheels freshly painted in the same white as the van.

New summer wheels, also in the same color as the white on the van.

New 225/70/16 summer rubber to go with the new lift, Bilstein HD shocks, etc.

To make this van durable for future travel and camping use all the "high wear" and easy to scratch areas were bed lined in color matched bedliner.

The rockers, the door sills, lower bumpers, rear bumper step, mirrors, poptop, door grab handles, seat bases, etc.

Beetle Kill Pine upper bunk and table.

Euro dash cubby, new stereo with bluetooth (notice the flush mount mic in the buttons?)

This Goal Zero Yeti 400 will replace the house battery and be mounted under the rear seat. It will run off the van and solar and power an Engel 45 fridge. The front two seat bases are being lowered an inch and swivels mounted to them. (so the house battery will no longer fit there).

Solar panel just sitting on the roof.

The new flooring installed. HD UV resistant anti microbial flooring.

Along with the new brakes, shocks, lift I also flushed the transmission and added a cooler.

So this is my plan of the Yeti 400. I think I can make it slide with the seat and accessible through the seat access panel. Wired to charge from either the solar on the roof or off the car when driving. All the lights, fridge and charge ports will run off of this.

Looks great
I like how the two-tone back dates the look

I think a two-tone eurovan with the "new beetle" retro wheels would be sharp.

Thanks.

You wouldn't believe how hard those are to find. They are also 17s. Which there are very very few properly rated tires to hold the weight of a Eurovan camper. I still want to use a set some day. Just need to find the right tire and van combo.

And your new project was an unexpected! Where did you find that van?(fwiw, I'm a dealer for half of your want list for that van)

Using the Yeti is a brilliant idea! I think I may look into doing that when I start redoing my electrical system this week. It would be way cleaner than all the crazy parts and pieces I was thinking about using.

Cole, you'd be the guy to ask, since I get dirty looks on the Samba whenever I make inquiries:

Do the Eurovan weekender sofa/bed mechanisms need latches or catches in the body (i.e. at the walls), or do they just attach to the floor? I'm always trying to figure out a better bed mechanism for my van, but haven't been able to examine a T4 styel bed up close. The Rock-n-roll mechanism is well understood, but has its issues with the geometry (plus I'm not a fan of building a wooden seat for actual passengers.)

This one looks fantastic. The colors are crazy, but it will suit someone!
