My Journey

McCarthy

Is it riding season yet?
Jerry the draw and fascination to coyote's in my opinion is that they have what we never can, a life without time. They're never early, never late, never near the end or the beginning, they just are. Some people (like yourself) get close to this, but a man never can truly be.

ocdiver.....yep, she fits in perfectly.....she's like the missing piece in our puzzle.....

Alan.....we have big plans for 2021 although I'm not quite certain just yet as to what they may be.....travel safe.....

Greg.....you remind me of a friend of mine in Montana that owns a gutter installation company. It's typically just him and one helper, and always he brings his poodle. When he pulls up in his truck pulling his cargo trailer, the last thing you expect to see is a poodle. There's no doubt in my mind that his poodle believes he's a Golden Retriever.....

Yesterday afternoon 3 coyotes came through our campsite. An hour later I saw them again coming from the lakes shoreline.....one had a black duck hanging from its mouth (difficult to see but it's the best I got).....

ITTOG.....thanks....she's perfect.....

McCarthy.....you said it perfectly. The last time I remember having thoughts such as these that are tied so closely to a wild animal was several years ago when I was camped with the wild horses on Assateaque Island (or was it Chincoteague?) at the Eastern Shore in Virginia.....oh man they speak to me.....

halseyt.....the million dollar question will never be answered.....Friday night I had gone to bed and as I was falling asleep I thought I'd make a quick check on Craigslist Las Vegas for Retrievers. The family had just put their post up and I decided to respond. I wrote a somewhat lengthy email and asked that they check out this thread (thanks to Scott B. & Christian P. for allowing this non overlander to post here). Saturday morning they texted me and asked to meet. They told me that they had received 43 requests for her that night but they chose Tanner & I.....I felt blessed and knew it was meant to be. Often over this past year I've scanned craigslist, animal shelters & breeders but this was the first time that I recall responding to anyone seriously.....that's our story.....and we're sticking to it.....

buenavides.....thanks for posting up and yea I would suppose that everyone that follows this thread will see their fair share of Golden Retriever photographs in the upcoming months. Hopefully we will be back out there once her legs are long enough to hit the backcountry once again.....

Arjan.....geez, I'm really sorry for you and your family. Hebe must have had an amazing life and been treated incredibly well cause Golden Retrievers typically never live near that long. Something that always has bewildered me about the breed is that they are the most loving of all dogs yet have one of the shortest lifespans. Was it cancer that took Hebe or was it maybe just the old age ? Again, I am truly, truly sorry.....

Wow I just read about the new addition to your Pack. I am sitting here at my desk and the grin on my face is about to break my face. That is one lucky pooch. I am with tgil if when my time is done I could come back it would be as one of your 4 legged friends, they do have the best life
Happy adventures!!!!!

Fossil Overlander
Thanks for the kind words.
Yes, Goldens seem to live less longs these decades. The first ones we had were 17 & 19 and worked their ar..s off all their lives for a living as they were my dogs working as a Picker Up in the shooting scene. Good times.
We now have Famke (10) and she's a maniac - so a lot of fun !

Hope Tanner, Maggie and you can share many happy trails for a long, long time.

Love the story of how Maggie was able to join your pack! Some things are "just meant to be"! Truly thankful her 1st family picked you for her to spend her life with. She will be a rotten girl, and bring joy to many through her adventures!

I know a dog name is a personal connection but I do believe she may have the perfect Hollywood name.

Maggie Mead.

A great blend of her Vegas life and the beginning of your adventure together. Whatever you do choose I am sure she will continue to enjoy her time and better all our lives.

mekcanix.....don't plan on dying anytime soon.....the truck camper is full.....

halseyt / grindmonkey.....Yukon was originally named Montana since that was where I acquired her (many years ago). We then drove north and when we reached the border between British Columbia & Yukon Territory, and I saw the Welcome To Yukon Territory sign, I immediately changed her name (so she was Montana for about a month). I'm going to take my time naming this one.....I do agree that Maggie is a beautiful name yet I'd prefer something more "fitting" if that makes sense.....

tgil.....yep she's rotten for sure and as sweet as can possibly be.....

Arjan.....I wanted to adopt a senior or adult Yellow Lab or Golden Retriever but it's just impossible in the United States. Most Retriever rescue groups require that you live locally and most animal shelters never get them since they are in such high demand. Animal shelters here in the states sadly are filled with breeds like Pit Bulls and they just aren't an option with us. With the onset of Covid-19, people everywhere are scrambling to get a dog.....I fear that after Covid-19 disappears (hopefully) huge numbers of these dogs will dumped at the animal shelters once again.....

Here's a post that has nothing to do with travel.....maybe if you're at the office or stuck at home.....you might enjoy a few photographs of our life at the lake now that the lake has become our home.....

24 HOURS AT THE LAKE SHOWN IN 20 PHOTOGRAPHS.....

The duck chases Tanner.....

.....and at one point it looked as though he had enough of this new pup.....

Ultimately Tanner returned and he's learning to enjoy moments such as these.....

He must be wondering what has happened to our little world of solitude.....

But they are quickly becoming the best of friends.....

It felt good to watch the sunset last night and take a few minutes to reflect on life.....

I typically try to take a few moments in each and every day to be thankful for our blessings.....there's something about this lifestyle that makes a man this way.....

20210202_165601_copy_1600x900.jpg

Maybe it's just that time takes on a completely different definition when you live this style of life.....I know its made changes in me.....

Last night the moon was bright as were all of the sparkling stars.....we were out at 2:30 a.m. .....one of the unexpected blessings of having a puppy.....to see that bright yet dark sky deep into the night.....and then the sun rises.....

I’m heading down to SW Arizona soon. Your warm sunshine photos make we want to leave NOW but I have a commitment on Friday.

I agree Maggie is alright but she needs a name that says adventure. She’s a cutie!
