How much did that little AC run you if you dont mind my asking?

Its basically $1500. I figure if I ever change vehicles. I can move it with me. It also can be run with an adapter from a 110 outlet as a window ac unit in your apartment too

You can go mini split ac units, but they will cost more. And install costs and time. And charging the lines. They all seem to be much more work than I was willing to do for this build. And space is a factor.

Basically was just trying to keep costs down and still be able to cool off given the cubic footage I have. The solar etc.

Just wanted to give this a try and see how it works ?

950 cooling watts output. Which is different somehow than the draw of 44amps on max at 12 volts. And low end is around 20-22 amps.

Ill have 8 group 31 VMAX 135 amps wired in parallel. And I got a balanced schematic from Iota chargers.

If I had to do it again. I would have just gotten 4 8D batteries. But as it goes, the tray originally needed 2 batteries. Then I thought 4 will be needed when I move the batteries inside. Then Im like well. To have ac at night Ill need more. So anyways.

I started off with 2 x 140ah AGM batteries and ended up replacing it with a 240ah Lithium before i even got a chance to fit the AGM's.

Im keen on seeing how this works, my next van build in the next 2-3 years will have to have some kind of AC without having to run 600-800ah of batteries to keep me cool at night.

I can't sleep in sweaty humid hot weather.

Yeap. I asked the local tailor if he could sew me up some dividers. Three, side barn door curtains wall, rear barn door and front blocked off. Line it with thinsulate inside. ANd heavy duty zippers

Ha. Yes. Im not the only one then! The tricky part for me. Is wiring them up. More batteries more connections etc. and the shop that put in the 220 amp alternator. Said I should stow the batteries inside. I thought he was nuts.

But temperature fluctuations are no bueno for batteries. And he also said theft. People will crawl under. Snip snip and unbolt your batteries. He said he has seen it.

So anyways. Loosing some interior storage in the hopes it provides a nice long life for some “happy” batteries. They are not cheap!

Im sure as the markets change. Batteries and battery densities will all change the game. I just didnt want to shell out even more $ for lithium. This project has already cost a lot. Even though the van was not expensive. It needed a lot. Now I know why nice built out rigs cost what they do!

The guys at Iota charging, have been super helpful. Here are some balanced schematics.

Im going to have it as two banks of four batteries joined. That way if ever down the road. Can just have four batteries. Or if one side went bad? I dunno. But nice to be somewhat modular if changes came.

Mmmm shore power from EV plugs, J1772.

Professional electrician said. Its just a different plug and voltage. Can be done!!

Would be funny, so see a smelly diesel burning rig like this pull up to an EV stall. And say yea, its a hybrid. ??

Interior trim moldings. Exact same make as the cabinets. Held in with 1-1/4” finish trim screws. Not nails.

Notched out the rear polyiso board for a flush fit. 1/2” square removed via table saw.

Finally installed the drawers. Tape is my handle for now. Covered the 6x30” opening above sink and made a new backsplash backing board. Two boards screwed into 8 3/4” maple mounts.

BassCat supplied me with these group 27/31 dual battery trays. The tops are not on. These are the bases. Included all mounting hardware. And really nice quality!!

Made several 3” vent holes. Not sure if one will be hooked up to the 12v exhaust fan on the side by the drivers side rear wheel or not?

Thinsulate filled “wall dividers” set if 6 panels. Two for front partition. Two for side door. Two for rear barn doors with curved top. Sewed in place 1.75” Thinsulate in each panel. Will overlap few inches. No zipper needed.

Had to get different solar mounts due to ridge and curve.

Quietest sink ever. Its a quality Kraus radiused edge deep sink. The blue rubberized paint got a bit scuff upon in and out sizing it up in the cutout. I lined the whole thing in butyl foil. Will keep dishes quiet. Soap dispenser on right. Fills from top of sink! Third ceramic filter for the dedicated spout on the left. Took about two hours to mount up and also cover the bottom and roll the foil.

Side wall on the inside needs one of these. Or something to cover it up and add some character. Has spackle fills and old mounts filled. These are wall vinyls. Removable. At $59. Rather large.

EV West supplied this AVC2 board and J1772 receptacle.

Has the potential for 240 volts at around 32 amps at 60Hz to come in. The board communicate with the EV station via proximity and pilot pins.

EV West says you can delete and not run one hot line if you just want 120volts.

Pretty cool huh.

Now shopping for an inverter and or charger combo MagnaSine? Or two separate units. I still have the 14 gauge triplex wire from the old shore power spot that ran to the removed charger, didnt work. So it can handle 15 amps input at 120volts safely.

Anyone wants to share thoughts. Let me know.

Magnasine, combo charger inverter. Or xantrex freedom inverter charger combo come to mind

Blue sea and other marine chargers accept a range of voltages.
I either have to use my 14 gauge triplex wire loom, or leave it in as dead wire. Since its hooked up and run behind the installed cabinets and counter top.

Lots of options. Or change the access mount for shore power to rear. ANd use the triplex wire to feed up into the Isotemp water heater?
