***SOLD***: 1997 M1101 Trailer with Amtech Fiberglass Top

Location: Bakersfield, California, USA

Description: 1997 M1101 military trailer in good condition with new Amtech fiberglass top. The trailer is completely stock and original. The only thing missing is the strap that holds down the fuel can. The 37 inch Goodyear military tires with runflat inserts are in excellent condition, maybe 95% to 99% tread, still shows nubs on the tread. Brakes work excellent. The parking brakes work perfectly. The lights have been converted to 12 volts and it comes with a four pin flat adapter (no wires were cut or spliced). The top was mounted by the military and then the trailer was decommissioned before the trailer was used with the new top. The top can support up to 500 lbs and is very thick fiberglass. The doors are aluminum, as is the trailer bed. There are a few very small dents on the outside of the body of the trailer, and one dent on the bed rim where the top is bolted down. The trailer pulls smooth and tracks straight. It is registered, titled and plated in California and the registration is good for five years. It also comes with a 5 ton pintle hook on a 12 inch rise 2 inch receiver hitch made from solid steel that raises the hitch to the appropriate height when pulling with a full size SUV or pickup. I was planning converting it to an off road camper but have since decided to go a different way. For more photos or if you have any questions, please contact me.

Price: $3,500

Nice looking trailer! I have a friend not far from you just outside of Fresno who has an M1102 with the same top and it has worked well for him for camping in the Sierras and the Mojave. Can you post pictures of the inside and of the hitch? Thanks, Dirk

Hitch and Inside

Dirk,

Sorry I didn't get back to you earlier--I didn't get an email notifying me of a response to my post. Here are some photos of the hitch and inside. The hitch is a generic brand and it is VERY heavy duty (and heavy, maybe 50 lbs). The receiver bar is solid, not a tube, and the mounting plate is 1/2 inch steel. The gusset is also 1/2 inch steel and is fitted completely between the bar and mounting plate and welded all the way. The hook is rated at 10,000 lbs so this setup is way overkill for this trailer. It works fine. I have never used a pintle hitch before and expected it to "knock" the vehicle around when accelerating and braking, but it's actually very smooth and of course articulates much better than a ball hitch. The inside of the trailer is just plain empty but clean. It is painted camo like the outside of the trailer. There are hardly any scratches and the trailer shows very little use. The walls of the top are stout enough to mount shelves, cabinets, or even a bed. Kit Young at Amtech informs me that the tops for the M1101 trailers start at about $4,000, not including mounting.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Hey, Doc, thanks for the quick response. A few more questions: Do all of the lights work? Do you know if the brakes and the trailer draw bar have been upgraded? And, would you be interested in selling the top separately? Also, would you be interested in a trade? I could trade a 1976 CJ5 straight across or a 1982 Jeep Scrambler for your trailer plus cash on your part. The CJ needs some work (blown head gasket, water in the oil) but is otherwise in pretty good condition. The Scrambler is completely stock and runs well, but will not pass smog. I can send pics. Let me know. Dirk

Lights Etc

Dirk,

Yes, all of the marker lights, brake lights, taillights, and turn signal lights work perfectly. They were all replaced with long life bulbs when I did the conversion to 12 volts. Regarding the brakes and draw bar, it is my understanding that all M1101 and M1102 trailers built before a certain date were upgraded, and I know this one was because it has the steel drawbar (as they all do now). Regarding trades or separating the top, no, I am not interested in selling the top separately or in any trades right now although who knows, maybe later??? Earlier, you asked about the inside. I took a few more photos showing the tie downs and am including those photos here. If you have any other questions, feel free to PM me as I will probably get the message faster because I don't check this website every day.

Several people have PM'd me asking various questions, several about the adapter to convert the military plug to a civilian vehicle. I am including a picture of the adapter here. For more photos, PM me and I'll send you a link to my Flickr page, which has several more photos of the trailer. Thanks, Everyone, for your interest.

Very nice trailer!

You wouldn't be interested in a trade by any chance? I have a very nice M101cdn with custom top and RTT in great shape...

No trades right now!

Mr. D,

Thanks for replying to my post. I must admit, you have a nice looking trailer, small, efficient. It's tempting. I'm trying to get away from using a trailer though, going for a van. One less vehicle to register and maintain, although unlike a trailer, you are always hauling your "box" around with you. Another thing, I am prohibited from selling the ex military trailer to anyone outside the United States. I know these laws are not strictly enforced especially with our neighbors to the north, but I don't want to draw Uncle Sam's ever watchful eye.

Export Restrictions

Mr. D:

As I mentioned in my PM to you, I checked the export restrictions and the demil trailers can not be sold to countries like Sudan, Iran, North Korea, all of the fun places that I am sure potential buyers are eager to visit. There are no restrictions to Canada, so no problems there.

Let me know if you have any other questions.
