Hey everyone,
Now that i finally have most of my camping gear and other essentials I am wondering how you guys keep it all packed and secured while traveling.
I have a 2014 Silverado with no cap so I am thinking of just placig all my gear in storage bins and lash them down on the bed???
Any ideas and tips or pictures will be greatly appreciated !!!

I used to do the same thing. It got old quick.

I went through the same dilemma. I ended up getting a cap with no windows (except in the very front cause i had no choice). Out of sight-out of mind.

Toolbox on drivers side. Made my own bed slide. It is secured down & does not tip. Works great for us.

I use a tonneau cover. Mine's a Bakflip tri fold model, which has worked well. Keeps everything out of sight and I can still see out the back window. And it removes fairly easily for those big bulky cargo. If I were to do it again, I'd probably get an Extang Solid Fold tonneau, as it is easier install and removal. Plus cheaper. I've had shells before and I thought it was more hassle to use. But it highly depends on your usage.

The problem with just tying things down in the bed is that they can become airborne real fast. I have seen some guys use a workmans toolbox bolted to the bed as a quick solution. Problem is that you dont have your weight distributed over the rear wheels for traction. I would do what the previous poster did and get a canopy and then you could get a place to sleep too. I hope this helps. Cheers, chilli..:)

I've been using combinations of action packers, milk crates, 5 gallon buckets and smaller Jobox's for years. Keep them in place with a semi trailer 'load bar' that I cut down to size. I mostly stick to dirt roads (not much wheelin') so they stay in place pretty well. If I'm traveling to places where theft is a concern I usually have my shell on which sorta hides things.

Mine is similar to this:

Have you considered building a bed platform / drawer storage setup? I've got ~11cu' of stuff all secured and totally out of sight in the back half of my Suburban. Storage subforum has a lot of nice setups that would handily handle your storage needs, if you are handy enough to build them. You can build somethign real nice for $3-400, instead of a pre-built system for 3-4x as much.

The stuck topic there has a lot of neat ideas.
