Recently got mine handed down from the wife's daily driver with 200k on it. Did the timing belt and a few other things. 2" lift with 285s. Hit the trails and broke the ring and pinion. About to order a 8.2 and get back at it. Love this truck!
Where did you get the bumper from?

Drove the GX up to Tahoe last week. It did great and everyone was super comfortable.

Spent 3 hours in the back seat of a GX towing a boat going to the river and for a guy who thinks he needs a truck......I can see myself getting one of these and figuring it out.

Especially if I had some TRD or T4R/Taco wheels like Chunko.

If anyone is thinking of selling, I'm in the market. Primarily looking for a stock or mildly built (think lift/sliders/tires) GX470. Ideal would be '05+ with less than 150k on the clock, but I'm down to hear about anything (esp. if the maintenance has been kept up with thoroughly). I'm in SoCal, but may be willing to travel or ship for the right find.

New guy here.......always been a Toyota owner....

Hang around at TW & Mud a lot too......

Pic is our '11 GX 460 that we bought in Jan '20 w/95K miles

Now has a mere 102K....completely went over the truck....fluids/plugs/filters etc

Along with a 2" Ironman lift.....new 17" wheels/tires & a RidG tire carrier..Ironman bumper

This is the wife's DD...sold her '05 Tacoma for this....she was worried she wouldn't like the GX

Even after driving the '05 Tacoma just short of 15 years..I got the OK to sell it

Great solid vehicle & actually gets better MPG than my Kawasaki SxS machine !

Anybody in here who has wheeled both a GX470 and also a first gen GX460 ('10-'13) and can compare the two? TBH I have found this forum to give much more sound advice about cars than FB groups and forums. Seems the people on here are more serious. Wondering who can compare the two as far as capability, ease of working on them, break downs, known issues, etc.

Welcome Utah, familiar face from Mud.

The 4.6L in the GX has more top end power but it feels very similar to the 4.7L in the bottom end. The biggest boon to the 4.6L in the 460 is the lack of a timing belt and the transmission is a plus with the added 6th gear. Less maintenance and better application of power, which is especially noticeable at highway speeds and also while towing. The 8" rear end in the 470 is a weak spot and usually addressed with a 8.2" swap by most 470 owners who run 33's or larger. There are no differences between the 460.1 (10-13) and 460.2 (14+) other than exterior aesthetics and a few tech options.

In regards to capability, ease of working on them, etc., there are no real discernible differences. Just know that with the 470 you'll have a 100K timing belt vs. a much longer lasting timing chain in the 460. The rear end in the 470 isn't an issue if you stay with stock or slightly larger than stock tires but you'll never have the 6th gear of the 460.

Got my 470 dirty for the first time after upgrades with a trip into the Sierra. Can’t believe how smooth and rattle free a 12yo rig can be, makes exploring so much more fun than my last rattle box f350. Had a lake to ourselves all week, doesn’t get any better.
