Pics of the 55? I've got one as well.

Sorry for the late response. I am away for work alot. The 55is nothing to write home about. The 40 is about to be done with a frame on resto and the 55 will be next on the list. I got it for a good deal so decided to get it sooner than later. once I get started it with it and there is something worth posting about it I will post pics in the Land Cruiser section.

I noticed a lot of members think their mid-size vehicles fit the thread category. I thought Full-size refered to 3/4 ton and greater suspension. Dodge and Chevy/GMC 1500, Nissan Titan, Toyota Tundra and Ford F150 are 1/2 ton.

thanx for the words! :)
dont have any pics of the winch mount , but the snorkel is made form 3" pvc plumbing pipe and a safari snorkel top.

this is how it sits right now , got another bed. but the "new" one i got was full of rust , and almost all the mounting bolts had broken of , so i hade to sandblast it and weld in new mounts.

If a 1/2 ton is a fullsize, what is a 3/4 or 1 ton? Fuller size?

The first post in the thread is what led to my comment, and the ensuing posts by others. Sorry to ruffle a few feathers. Capability is what I deem the deciding factor, not the physical size, and a 1/2 ton does not have what is needed to fit the class. Kinda like the average length and girth guy thinking he has what it takes to be a porn star.

Just different GVWR. Most share the same cab, fenders and bed. 1/2, 3/4 and 1 ton are all listed as "full size" (USA)
That said the midsize may also have 1/2, 3/4 and 1 ton as well. Toyota is a good example. They had a 1 ton dually cab-chassis for their RV platform.
I would consider the S-10 , Tacoma and Ranger to be compact. Mid-size might fit those too?

Rsh, I recognise that atv from your youtube video showing how long it takes to start a single cylinder diesel in the cold. I would like to know what you did to mount a winch behind the stock bumper. I want to make a similar mount on my Yukon.

Vehicles are grouped based on foot print not GVWR. Since 1/2 tons share the same foot print (length, width, height) generally and in chevy and dodges case bodies, they are grouped together. Not to mention some current 1/2 tons have as much GVWR as older 3/4 tons. Its just a general grouping, but you seem like you want to put your F250 on a pedestal, so go start your own thread.

Dodge Cummins Carli BackCountry 3"

Well heres my baby. She is a 2010 F-350 diesel cc long box 4x4 with a buck stop bumper, warn m12000 winch, 6 inch lift, 35'' toyo mts, 4 light force lights on the front bumper. Spartan tuned, dpf delete, with an EGR delete, AFE Intake,4" turbo back exhaust, and a Kanack job site tool box bolted to the floor in the box. Oh ya there is also 2 piaa driving lights in the bumper as well, and i usually tow a 25' fifth wheel with another quad trailer behind that. If anyone is wondering the little dog was my parents, she was 17 years old in that pic. Also i want to turn my truck into an expedition rig and i'm not really sure how to go about it. I know that i do want an 8 foot camper thats a pop up, but since i'm in Canada i need a pop up that can handle -40 Celsius. Any advice would be great. Thanks.

Alberta I'm guessing? The only thing needed to make your truck more "expo" is loading it up and going on an extended trip. Preferably one with a fair bit of backcountry travel. Most people on here don't have the time off, money or lifestyle to permit a true "expedition", so long weekends in the bush seem to be the norm.

As for pop-up truck campers, many companies offer a "cold weather" kit. This usually consists of foil bubble wrap type stuff that you place inside the canvas in colder weather. With a good furnace cranking out heat you should be ok. I don't imagine you camp too often in -40. Hallmark is a pop-up camper built in the Denver Co area. They are very well built and should work in the cold.

Oh, and welcome to ExPo as well!

Haha ya your right I do live in Alberta, and your also right about the length of trips. The only time it would be an extended trip is when we plan on traveling up to the Yukon, Alaska, and to the east coast. The majority of trips would be the camping trips out to the bush. The only other reason I would require a camper that can handle the extreme cold is that I'm an avid hunter and I go out hunting twice a year on 2 week trips. So it would be nice to have a camper that can house 2-3 people safely and comfortably in the winter time. Thanks for your input, and this place is a amazing resource. I'm glad to be part of such a great community.

One other thing I forgot to ask, is there such a thing as a hard sided pop up camper. That has no canvas for the upper section but the same material as the rest of the camper.
